That doesn&#8217;t mean that\u00a0<em>other<\/em> <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/subaru\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Subarus<\/a> are tough to find here; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2013\/11\/junkyard-find-1978-subaru-leone-4wd-wagon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">ancient<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/car-life\/classic-cars\/a38762969\/1978-subaru-dl-4wd-wagon-is-junkyard-treasure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">Malaise Era Leones<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/autoweek.com\/article\/junkyard-treasures\/junkyard-treasure-2005-saab-9-2x-linear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">Saabarus<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2019\/02\/27\/junkyard-gem-2006-subaru-b9-tribeca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">Tribecas<\/a> and all the rest appear in large numbers, and even the occasional member of the storied <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/subaru\/wrx\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">WRX<\/a> family shows up among the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2017\/11\/10\/junkyard-gem-1992-subaru-loyale-wagon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">Loyales<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2019\/04\/09\/junkyard-gem-1993-subaru-justy-4wd-gl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">Justys<\/a>. Thing is, a gen-yoo-wine WRX is worth enough in fix-uppable condition that I just see wrecked ones, and nearly all of those are <em>unrecognizably<\/em> wrecked examples. Here&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/buy\/2010-Subaru-Impreza-WRX__4dr_All_wheel_Drive_Hatchback\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:17;\">2010 Impreza WRX<\/a> that can still be identified as such, spotted in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.littletonupull.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:18;\">a yard just south of Denver<\/a> recently.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/08\/23181235\/22-2010-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>As you&#8217;d imagine, the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mitsubishi\/lancer+evolution\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:19;\">Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution<\/a> is much-prized in Colorado as well, and I also find a few of those among the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/suzuki\/esteem\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:20;\">Esteems<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/volkswagen\/jetta\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:21;\">Jettas<\/a> in the IMPORTS sections of the self-service yards along the I-25 corridor. Unlike most of the Evos and WRXs I see in places like this, though, here&#8217;s one that got through the crash and rollover while still looking something like its former self.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/08\/23181242\/29-2010-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>All the glass got broken out and all the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/airbag\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:22;\">airbags<\/a> fired, of course, but it looks like a simple case of hitting a glancing blow to a guardrail after entering an offramp at triple the recommended speed, followed by a skid into some landscaping and a rollover in soft dirt. Most crashed WRXs I find in Colorado junkyards got there because they crashed into something made of steel or concrete at a not-so-oblique angle, then got crunched by several vehicles collected by the chaos of the initial wreck.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/08\/23181221\/03-2010-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>If the occupant or occupants of this car were fully belted, they almost certainly walked away from the crash with nothing worse than some minor bruises and maybe some abrasions from safety-glass cubes\u2026 plus a deep sadness about this destroyed Subaru.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/08\/23181226\/11-2010-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The STI version of this car had a six-speed manual transmission, but the regular WRX got a five-on-the-floor manual. If you wanted an automatic,\u00a0<em>too bad!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/08\/23181229\/13-2010-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>That transmission, along with the engine and all related hardware, got grabbed long ago. If the WRX powertrain even made it to this yard&#8217;s regular inventory, the very first customer who recognized it scored <a href=\"http:\/\/www.littletonupull.com\/Pricelist.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:23;\">a great deal on some valuable components<\/a> (all engines with complete accessories: $184.99, plus $89.99 for the transaxle).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/08\/23181234\/20-2010-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>With its 265-horsepower turbocharged boxer-four (the STI had 305 horses from a much more nervous version of that 2.5), the MSRP on this car was $25,495 (about $34,860 in 2022 dollars).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/08\/23181247\/36-2010-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The WRX became a distinct model <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/buy\/2015-Subaru-WRX\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:24;\">for 2015<\/a>, losing the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/subaru\/impreza\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:25;\">Impreza<\/a> name while remaining on the Impreza chassis (which itself evolved from the original <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2012\/07\/junkyard-find-1991-subaru-legacy-l-sedan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:26;\">late-1980s Legacy design<\/a>). These days, the WRX and every other current US-market Subaru model (with the exception of the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/subaru\/brz\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:27;\">BRZ<\/a>) live on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2016\/03\/07\/subaru-global-platform-future-models\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:28;\">the modular Subaru Global Platform<\/a>.
