Despite multiple automakers preparing to enter the Formula 1 circus \u2013 Audi, VW and potentially Porsche \u2013 BMW has no intention to follow suit at the moment. Andreas Roos, the head of BMW M Motorsport, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport-total.com\/formel-1\/news\/kein-interesse-an-der-formel-1-bmw-setzt-ganz-auf-sportwagen-22092403\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Motorsport-total.com<\/a> that being absent from F1 was \u201cnot an issue for us\u201d because BMW was \u201cdefinitely not interested at the moment.\u201d In 2026, new power unit regulations will be introduced to Formula 1. So we\u2019re happy with the big bouquet of projects we currently have in motorsport.\u201d BMW M CEO shared with us a similar statement. Van Meel says that the company always stood for innovation transfer from the track to the road. The M boss says that while the company recognizes the marketing value and reach of Formula 1, \u201cBMW M is not in motorsport for marketing purposes.\u201d And according to BMW, this is why the M Hybrid V8 racing car fits better within the electrification strategy of the BMW brand moving forward. Van Meel says that the LMDh cars will use a variant of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwblog.com\/2022\/04\/15\/bmw-s68-m-division-engine\/\">V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain<\/a>\u00a0introduced recently by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwblog.com\/2022\/04\/19\/bmw-xm-2023-rendering\/\">BMW XM<\/a>\u00a0and likely to be used in the future\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwblog.com\/2022\/05\/09\/future-bmw-m5-cs-render\/\">BMW M5 G90<\/a>. In 1983, BMW won the driver\u2019s championship with Nelson Piquet (Brabham BMW). The last win with the legendary turbo engine followed with Benetton in 1986. Ten victories were scored during the partnership with Williams (2000-2005). BMW had a total of 19 grand prix wins and 33 pole positions before the BMW Sauber F1 Team era.
