General Motors announced on Friday that it will invest $760 million at Toledo, Ohio propulsion manufacturing operations to prepare the facility for production of drive units that will be used in future GM Ultium-based battery electric trucks including the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV and GMC HUMMER EVs.<\/p>\n

I am so proud of the work done by our members in Local 14, led by President Tony Totty and Shop Chair Jeff King and under the leadership of Region 2B Director Wayne Blanchard.<\/p>\n

This is a storied facility with a history that reaches back over generations. As vehicles have evolved, so has the facility and our membership here at Local 14.\u00a0 This investment is a reminder that Toledo Propulsion is here to stay and will be a part of the future of GM.<\/p>\n

Last week\u2019s investment in the Marion, Indiana stamping plant represents a commitment to transforming existing facilities as our industry shifts to electric vehicles.\u00a0 Today\u2019s announcement is unique as it represents the first investment into an existing propulsion facility to transform it for EV production.\u00a0 Local 14 members will now be building drive units for the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.<\/p>\n

It will be the start of a trend because our members deserve no less.\u00a0 I have often said that the transition to electric vehicles must not take place at the expense of existing membership.\u00a0 Investments such as today\u2019s makes our members\u2019 jobs more secure and ensures that facilities like Toledo Propulsion will carry on supporting future generations of UAW members.<\/p>\n

These days there is a lot of talk about UAW members being left behind as the industry shifts.\u00a0 Let me tell you this:\u00a0 our members made GM successful yesterday, today and definitely tomorrow.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
