{"id":32250,"date":"2022-09-26T09:04:05","date_gmt":"2022-09-26T13:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=32250"},"modified":"2022-09-26T09:04:05","modified_gmt":"2022-09-26T13:04:05","slug":"1137270_bmw-alpina-b7-dead-after-six-generations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=32250","title":{"rendered":"BMW Alpina B7 dead after six generations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The BMW 7-Series enters its seventh generation with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1134097_2023-bmw-7-series-price-specs-review-photos-info\">redesigned 2023 model<\/a> unveiled in April, but there won&#8217;t be an Alpina version this time around, the semi-official BMW tuner has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Alpina earlier in September marked the end of production of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1121432_2020-alpina-b7-preview-because-the-bmw-m7-doesnt-exist-yet\">B7 based on the outgoing BMW 7-Series<\/a>, and confirmed the car as the last B7.<\/p>\n<p>No reason was given but it could be due to BMW, which in March <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1135289_bmw-buys-alpina-brand\">acquired the Alpina brand<\/a>, preparing to launch its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1135654_bmw-7-series-to-spawn-more-powerful-m760e-plug-in-hybrid-and-i7-m70-electric-versions\">own range of high-performance 7-Series<\/a> based on the latest generation of the flagship sedan. These include the M760e xDrive plug-in hybrid with 563 hp and i7 M70 xDrive electric vehicle with more than 600 hp on tap.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also the issue of sedan sales losing out to SUVs. Alpina&#8217;s XB7 based on the BMW X7 outsells the B7, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1135592_2023-bmw-alpina-xb7-price-revealed\">an updated version<\/a> has just been announced for 2023.<\/p>\n<p>There have been six generations of the B7 but the car hasn&#8217;t always been based on the 7-Series. The first was launched in 1978 as the B7 Turbo on the basis of the BMW 5-Series. The first B7 based on the BMW 7-Series didn&#8217;t arrive until 2001.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1099088_take-a-look-behind-the-scenes-at-alpina\">documentary released last November<\/a> shows how the B7 is built, and provides a bit of a history on Alpina and an interview with company founder Burkard Bovensiepen.<\/p>\n<p>With the Alpina brand now under the ownership of BMW, future Alpinas will be built at BMW&#8217;s own plants while Alpina will focus on vehicle development and the parts and service side of the business.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The BMW 7-Series enters its seventh generation with the redesigned 2023 model unveiled in April, but there won&#8217;t be an Alpina version this time around, the semi-official BMW tuner has confirmed.
