I think this is essential because if the public does not like what Tesla is doing &#8230; the public could buy shares in Tesla and vote differently,&#8221; Musk said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a big deal. It&#8217;s very important that I can&#8217;t just do what I want. Sometimes people think that, but it&#8217;s not true,&#8221; he added when discussing Tesla&#8217;s plans to develop its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/elon-musk-tesla-ai-day-optimus-robot-fall-on-face-2022-9?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">humanoid AI robo<\/a>t.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just over four years ago, the Tesla CEO made waves when he tweeted that he was considering taking the company private.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet blockquote\"><p>\n  \u2014Elon Musk (@elonmusk)<br \/>\n <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mims\/statuses\/1026872652290379776\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">August 7, 2018<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One month after sending that tweet, Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/teslas-elon-musk-settles-with-sec-must-step-down-as-chairman-2018-9?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">settled fraud charges<\/a> with the SEC for allegedly &#8220;false and misleading statements.&#8221; Musk neither admitted nor denied the allegations, but he resigned as Tesla&#8217;s chairman and paid a $20 million fine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Musk is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/elon-musk-twitter-private-texts-jack-dorsey-larry-ellison-rogan-2022-9?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">embroiled in a legal battle<\/a>\u00a0with Twitter over whether he will buy the social media company for $44 billion. Musk&#8217;s initial takeover bid was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/elon-musk-twitter-deal-could-crumble-tesla-stock-420-2022-5?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com#:~:text=Musk's%20Twitter%20takeover%20is%20financed,cover%20the%20loan%2C%20Bloomberg%20reported.\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">financed by a huge loan<\/a> against his Tesla shares.
