{"id":33075,"date":"2022-10-06T06:27:16","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T10:27:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=33075"},"modified":"2022-10-06T06:27:16","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T10:27:16","slug":"amazon-orders-20-electric-trucks-volvo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=33075","title":{"rendered":"Amazon orders 20 electric trucks from Volvo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amazon is ordering 20 electric trucks from Volvo as part of its electrification effort for its large delivery and supply chain fleet.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2019, Amazon announced a new initiative called \u201cThe Climate Pledge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a carbon-neutral commitment across the company, and as part of the new initiative, Amazon confirmed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2019\/09\/19\/rivian-electric-delivery-vans-amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">it ordered 100,000 electric delivery vans<\/a>\u00a0with Rivian, an electric vehicle startup the retail giant heavily invested in prior to the order.<\/p>\n<p>You can now see <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/02\/03\/amazon-rivian-electric-van-customer-deliveries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Rivian electric vans operated by Amazon<\/a> across the US.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon followed with several other electric vehicle orders to accelerate its fleet\u2019s transition to electric.<\/p>\n<p>We reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2020\/08\/28\/amazon-orders-electric-vans-from-mercedes-benz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an order of 1,800 electric vans made by Mercedes-Benz<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2020\/09\/16\/amazon-buys-electric-trucks-lion-electric\/\">Amazon also bought 10 electric trucks from Lion Electric<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now Amazon is expanding its fleet of heavy-duty electric trucks with an order of 20 Volvo FH Electric.<\/p>\n<p>Volvo announced in a press release today:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"8\">\n<p>Volvo Trucks will deliver fully electric heavy-duty trucks to Amazon in Germany by year end. The 20 Volvo FH Electric are expected to drive more than one million road kilometres annually, fuelled with electricity instead of diesel.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Volvo FH Electric is an \u201cup to 44 tonnes GCW\u201d capacity truck with a range of up to 300 km (186 miles).<\/p>\n<p>Volvo shared some of the electric truck\u2019s specs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Battery capacity: 540 kWh<\/li>\n<li>Output power: 490 kW continuous power<\/li>\n<li>The range is up to 300 km, but the Volvo FH Electric can cover up to 500 km during a normal workday if a top-up charge is added, for example during the lunch break<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jessica Sandstr\u00f6m, senior vice president of product management at Volvo Trucks, commented on the announcement:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"7\">\n<p>Big actors in the transport business play a key role in leading the industry\u2019s efforts to lower its carbon footprint. Therefore I\u00b4m glad that Amazon is working with us to help reduce their emissions in longer and heavier transport assignments.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Andreas Marschner,\u00a0vice president Transportation Services Europe at Amazon, added:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"10\">\n<p>Amazon is committed to decarbonizing its fleet, and the middle mile has been a notoriously hard-to-abate sector. That\u2019s why welcoming these electric heavy goods vehicles from Volvo into our fleet is such a critical milestone.
