The year-to-date result of 1,571,714 is 15% below last year.<\/p>\n<p>The numbers indicate that the Japanese manufacturer is struggling this year, and this includes also its overall electrified lineup.<\/p>\n<p>Q3 results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Toyota: 458,493 (down 23%)<\/li>\n<li>Lexus: 67,524 (down 17%)<\/li>\n<li>Total: 526,014 (down 7%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Out of that, electrified vehicles (HEV, PHEV, BEV, FCEV) stand for a fifth of the total volume:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Toyota xEV: 96,674 (down 28%)<\/li>\n<li>Lexus xEV: 15,270 (down 5%)<\/li>\n<li>Total xEV: 111,944 (down 25%) and 21.3% of the total volume<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unfortunately, plug-in electric car sales are not only down, but the rate of decline is much higher. It&#8217;s really disappointing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Toyota plug-ins: 6,085 (down 56%) at 1.3% share<\/li>\n<li>Lexus plug-ins: 1,066 (new) at 1.6% share<\/li>\n<li>Total plug-ins: 7,151 (down 48%) and 1.4% of the total volume<br \/><em>*FCEVs: 79 (down 88%)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<section class=\"trinity-skip-it\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/toyota-and-lexus-plug-in-electric-car-sales-in-the-us-q3-2022.png\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/toyota-and-lexus-plug-in-electric-car-sales-in-the-us-q3-2022.png\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"955\" height=\"429\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>So far this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/toyota\/\">Toyota<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/lexus\/\">Lexus<\/a> delivered in the US over 24,600 plug-ins, while cumulatively it&#8217;s over 214,600 (excluding hydrogen fuel cell Toyota Mirai).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/600023\/toyota-federal-tax-credit-phaseout-underway\/\">The group already triggered the phaseout of the federal tax credit in Q2<\/a>, but it does not matter much now, because in 2023 Toyota will have to face updated rules and the requirement of local production.<\/p>\n<section class=\"trinity-skip-it\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/toyota-and-lexus-plug-in-electric-car-sales-in-the-us-q3-2022-b.png\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/toyota-and-lexus-plug-in-electric-car-sales-in-the-us-q3-2022-b.png\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"953\" height=\"429\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<h2>Models<\/h2>\n<p>The top-selling plug-in Toyota in Q3 was the Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid, although it noted a significant 61% decrease compared to over 10,000 units a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>The plug-in hybrid Toyota Prius Prime has been in the red for six consecutive quarters, while the all-new new and all-electric Toyota bZ4X did not see any sales at all due to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/614704\/toyota-resumes-bz4x-production-after-fixing-wheel-hub-bolt-issue\/\">safety issues related to wheel hub bolts<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/614704\/toyota-resumes-bz4x-production-after-fixing-wheel-hub-bolt-issue\/\">The fix is just around the corner though<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The hydrogen <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/toyota\/mirai\/\">Toyota Mirai<\/a> noted 79 units (down 88%).
