It will become the\u00a0world\u2019s largest offshore wind farm\u00a0upon completion, with an installed capacity of 3.6 gigawatts (GW). And it looks likely that it will get a fourth phase, Dogger Bank D, making it even more massive.<\/p>\n<p>Dogger Bank, which is located between 78 and 180 miles (125 and 290 km) off the east coast of Yorkshire, is a joint venture between Norwegian energy giant Equinor (40%), British utility SSE Renewables (40%), and Italian energy company Eni Plenitude (20%). SEE Renewables and Equinor are looking into creating Dogger Bank D. A spokesperson told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshorewind.biz\/2022\/10\/06\/breaking-sse-equinor-plan-1-3-gw-dogger-bank-d-offshore-wind-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OffshoreWind.biz<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"10\">\n<p>SSE Renewables and Equinor are currently assessing seabed for the potential of expanding Dogger Bank Wind Farm, which is currently under construction, with an additional phase, Dogger Bank D. The potential project is supported by a grid connection for up to 1320 [megawatts] MW.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Surveys on the potential Dogger Bank D site started in August and are expected to conclude at the end of November. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"The world's largest offshore wind farm is going to get even larger\" width=\"1344\" height=\"616\" src=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/feature-bg-1344x616-1.jpeg?quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1000\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-258822\" srcset=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/feature-bg-1344x616-1.jpeg 1344w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/feature-bg-1344x616-1.jpeg?resize=150,69 150w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/feature-bg-1344x616-1.jpeg?resize=300,138 300w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/feature-bg-1344x616-1.jpeg?resize=768,352 768w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/feature-bg-1344x616-1.jpeg?resize=1024,469 1024w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/feature-bg-1344x616-1.jpeg?resize=350,160 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1344px) 100vw, 1344px\"\/><figcaption>Photo: Voltaire @ Jan de Nul<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>A, B, and C alone will be capable of powering up to six million UK homes once it\u2019s completed in 2026 \u2013 and there are approximately\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/peoplepopulationandcommunity\/birthsdeathsandmarriages\/families\/bulletins\/familiesandhouseholds\/latest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">28.1 million households<\/a>\u00a0in the country.<\/p>\n<p>If the fourth phase is carried out, the capacity of the world\u2019s largest offshore wind farm would reach nearly 5 gigawatts.<\/p>\n<p>In May, <em>Electrek<\/em> reported that offshore construction work had officially started with the installation of the first length of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ore.catapult.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/HVDC-transmission-cables-in-the-offshore-wind-industry.-Reliability-and-condition-monitoring.pdf#:~:text=HVDC%20export%20cables%20are%20also,costs%20and%20loss%20of%20revenue.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HVDC export cable<\/a>\u00a0off the Yorkshire coast. Dogger Bank will be the first HVDC-connected wind farm in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2021, SSE\u00a0and Equinor\u00a0announced that they had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/12\/06\/phase-3-of-the-worlds-largest-offshore-wind-farm-moves-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">secured financing<\/a>\u00a0to proceed with the construction of the $3.98 billion Dogger Bank C.<\/p>\n<p>GE Renewable Energy will provide 87 units of the enormous Haliade-X 14 MW wind turbines for Dogger Bank C.
