It also announced a companion $700 million investment to revamp several existing Ohio plants for EV production.<\/p>\n<p>However, Honda&#8217;s first mass-market EV for the U.S. will be the Prologue SUV, based on General Motors&#8217; Ultium battery tech. It&#8217;s scheduled to debut in 2024, and is expected to be built alongside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136540_preview-2024-chevrolet-blazer-ev-starts-at-44-995-ends-at-320-miles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chevrolet Blazer EV<\/a> in Mexico. Honda&#8217;s Acura luxury brand will also get the Ultium-derived <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136873_acura-zdx-first-electric-vehicle-type-s-performance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ZDX SUV<\/a> in 2024, with production expected to take place at GM&#8217;s Spring Hill, Tennessee, factory alongside the Cadillac Lyriq.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100858367_m\" title=\"2024 Honda Prologue\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2024 Honda Prologue\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"683\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/honda_100858367_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/honda_100858367_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/honda_100858367_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/honda_100858367_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/honda_100858367_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/honda_100858367_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2024 Honda Prologue<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In 2027, Honda and GM plan to begin selling co-developed affordable EVs in North America. This is from both the Ultium-based Prologue\/ZDX deal and Honda&#8217;s own designs.<\/p>\n<p>While the announcement only mentions conventional lithium-ion battery chemistry, Honda is also researching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1132037_honda-us-ev-plans-solid-state-batteries-later-this-decade-all-evs-by-2040\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">solid-state batteries<\/a>, although they likely won&#8217;t be ready for use in production EVs until later this decade, at the earliest.<\/p>\n<p>These various efforts will contribute to Honda&#8217;s goal of eliminating all combustion engines from its global lineup by 2040, leaving both battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Honda and LG Energy Solution on Tuesday confirmed details of a joint-venture Ohio battery plant that will produce battery modules for North American-market Honda EVs beginning in 2025.
