{"id":33574,"date":"2022-10-13T09:03:54","date_gmt":"2022-10-13T13:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=33574"},"modified":"2022-10-13T09:03:54","modified_gmt":"2022-10-13T13:03:54","slug":"1137441_toyota-crown-prime-phev-range-performance-rav4-prime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=33574","title":{"rendered":"Toyota Crown Prime PHEV: Might range, performance top RAV4 Prime?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Toyota Crown Prime plug-in hybrid could be in the works to complement the Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime, according to a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motortrend.com\/news\/toyota-crown-plug-in-hybrid-phev-confirmed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Motor Trend<\/em><\/a> report.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136508_2023-toyota-crown-hybrid-max-revealed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Crown<\/a> returns to the United States for the first time since the 1970s as a replacement for the Toyota Avalon, and with an all-hybrid powertrain lineup. But Toyota is also considering a plug-in hybrid powertrain, according to the report, which cites none other than CEO Akio Toyoda.<\/p>\n<p>The Crown goes on sale in the U.S. later this year with two hybrid systems. It pairs a 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission and motors front and rear for a combined 323 hp.<\/p>\n<p>As for the potential Prime plug-in hybrid system, one possibility is to borrow the system from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136032_2023-lexus-rx-plug-in-hybrid-direct4-redesign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 Lexus RX 450h+<\/a> plug-in hybrid. But <em>Motor Trend<\/em> notes that this system may not produce more power than the existing Hybrid Max system, which might not make sense depending on how the Crown Prime is positioned.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1128706_2021-toyota-rav4-prime-first-drive-review-the-way-a-plug-in-hybrid-should-be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RAV4 Prime<\/a>, with 42 electric miles, was at debut also the quickest Toyota with four doors, and it even offers some off-road capability. Regardless of the model cadence, plug-in hybrids do seem to be an important part of Toyota&#8217;s future plans.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Toyota plans to emphasize plug-in hybrids increasingly more toward the end of the decade, with about 85% of vehicles free of tailpipe emissions, and CEO Akio Toyoda last week called the national target of 50% EVs by 2030 &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137352_toyota-ceo-us-target-of-50-evs-by-2030-very-difficult\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">difficult<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Meanwhile, Toyota has said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1134692_toyota-solid-state-battery-hybrid-by-2025-prius\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">solid-state battery tech<\/a> it has been developing will debut by 2025 in a hybrid, not the EVs most other automakers seem to be reserving the tech for.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Toyota Crown Prime plug-in hybrid could be in the works to complement the Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime, according to a recent Motor Trend report.
