{"id":33778,"date":"2022-10-15T12:03:44","date_gmt":"2022-10-15T16:03:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=33778"},"modified":"2022-10-15T12:03:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-15T16:03:44","slug":"freddie-mercury-queen-rolls-royce-auction-ukrainian-war-victims-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=33778","title":{"rendered":"Freddie Mercury&#8217;s silver Rolls-Royce auction will benefit Ukrainian war victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freddiemercury.com\/en\/news\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\">Freddie Mercury<\/a>, Queen\u2019s exuberant front man, had a penchant for very expensive, very lux cars; a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/lincoln\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">Lincoln<\/a>, a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/daimler\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">Daimler<\/a>, and his favorite, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GpSU_Q6YPZI\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow<\/a>.\u00a0The limousine, which chauffeured <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mercury\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Mercury<\/a> until his death in 1991 (he had no driver\u2019s license), is now on its way to a higher calling: It\u2019s to be sold off next month at <a href=\"https:\/\/rmsothebys.com\/en\/auctions\/lf22\/london\/lots\/r0015-1974-rolls-royce-silver-shadow\/1296059\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">RM Sotheby&#8217;s London auction<\/a>, with proceeds going to the <a href=\"https:\/\/babel.ua\/en\/news\/83135-a-modern-prosthetics-center-is-being-created-in-lviv-oblast-singer-sting-actor-schreiber-and-billionaire-branson-s-foundation-will-become-ambassadors\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Superhumans Center<\/a>, a charity supported by Richard Branson and others to provide aid for war victims in Ukraine and to fund construction of a hospital in Lviv.<\/p>\n<p>According to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hagerty.com\/media\/auctions\/freddie-mercurys-classic-rolls-royce-is-looking-for-somebody-to-love\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\"> Hagerty<\/a> automotive site, Mercury\u2019s sister <a href=\"https:\/\/celebsuburb.com\/inside-the-life-of-kashmira-bulsara-the-younger-sister-of-freddie-mercury\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">Kashmira<\/a> drove the car for a time after her brother\u2019s death. With 62,000 miles on the clock, it was eventually put up for <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/auction-action\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">auction<\/a> in Britain and sold in 2013 and fetched \u00a374,600, the equivalent of \u00a3131,098 (about $146,000) today.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/os\/creatr-images\/2018-10\/3b29aff0-d07c-11e8-bbfd-8bc1b7d9021f\" data-headline=\"undefined\" data-summary=\"undefined\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The car is painted a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/colors\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">color<\/a> called Silver Chalice and has a blue interior. It is powered by a V8 motor. The sedan\u2019s memory was kept alive in the Queen biopic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1727824\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">\u201cBohemian Rhapsody.\u201d<\/a> At the beginning of the film, the rocker is being delivered to the Live Aid concert in a silver Rolls (not Mercury\u2019s original, presumably).\u00a0In other Queen-related news of note, band members Brian May and Roger Taylor authorized the release Thursday of a newly-discover song, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ijj_hheGEi0\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">Face It Alone,\u201d<\/a> originally recorded in the 1980s. It was targeted for inclusion on \u201cThe Miracle,\u201d Queen\u2019s 13<sup>th<\/sup> studio album, but didn\u2019t make the final release.<\/p>\n<p>The song was discovered by a team assembling an upcoming eight-disc Queen box set. \u201cWe\u2019d kind of forgotten about this track,\u201d Taylor said in a statement. \u201cBut there it was, this little gem. It\u2019s wonderful, a real discovery.
