Starting in 1979, Colt badges moved over to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9jFIJIOFfU0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">the front-wheel-drive Mirage<\/a>, with the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mitsubishi\/mirage\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">Mirage<\/a> itself appearing here for the 1985 model year. Here&#8217;s one of those cars, a rare 1990 sedan in <a href=\"https:\/\/locations.lkqpickyourpart.com\/co\/denver\/6100-n.-federal-blvd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">a Denver self-service yard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/09\/13142357\/46-1990-Mitsubishi-Mirage-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In 1990, Americans could choose between four near-identical versions of this car sold by different marques: the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mitsubishi\/mirage\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">Mitsubishi Mirage<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/oldcarbrochures.org\/United%20States\/Dodge\/1990-Dodge\/1990-Dodge-Full-Line-Brochure\/slides\/1990_Dodge_Full_Line-12.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">Dodge Colt<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2014\/08\/junkyard-find-1989-mitsubishi-lancer-wait-mean-plymouth-colt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">Plymouth Colt<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2012\/05\/junkyard-find-1990-eagle-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">Eagle Summit<\/a>. The MSRP on the &#8217;90 Mirage sedan was $8,559 (about $15,015 in 2022 dollars) and the prices of the other three were so close as to make no real difference; customers could just shop for the best <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/new-car-incentives\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:17;\">rebates<\/a> and financing. Americans couldn&#8217;t get this generation of the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/dodge\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:18;\">Dodge<\/a>\/<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/plymouth\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:19;\">Plymouth<\/a> Colt as a sedan, though Canadians could.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/09\/13142343\/28-1990-Mitsubishi-Mirage-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Most of the Mirages and Summits sold here were hatchbacks, but Mitsubishi and Eagle <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-dealers\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:20;\">dealers<\/a> probably wanted something to compete with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2020\/07\/11\/junkyard-gem-1989-honda-civic-sedan-with-308000-miles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:21;\">the Civic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2017\/07\/17\/junkyard-gem-1991-geo-prizm-gsi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:22;\">Corolla sedans<\/a> of the era.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/09\/13142335\/16-1990-Mitsubishi-Mirage-in-Colorado-junkyard-Photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Mitsubishi certainly got its money&#8217;s worth out of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mitsubishi_Orion_engine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:23;\">the 4G aka Orion engine family<\/a>! This is a 1.5-liter SOHC 4G15, rated at 81 horsepower. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2020\/05\/25\/junkyard-gem-1989-hyundai-excel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:24;\">The early Hyundai Excel<\/a> (and its Mitsubishi-badged twin, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2018\/05\/30\/junkyard-gem-1990-mitsubishi-precis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:25;\">the Precis<\/a>) got a version of this engine.
