I suspect the ongoing Twitter\u00a0soap opera leaves investors feeling ummm, uneasy, about <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/category\/elon-musk\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"8\" data-params=\"%7B%22section_route%22%3A%22news%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22elon-musk%22%7D\">Musk<\/a>\u00a0triangulating his time between <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22tesla%22%7D\">Tesla<\/a>, SpaceX, and (now) Twitter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So let&#8217;s get right to brass tax \u2014 will Twitter\u00a0cannibalize Musk&#8217;s time at Tesla? Keep in mind,\u00a0Elon has Neuralink and The Boring Company all while\u00a0deftly\u00a0managing his time with great finesse. Thus, I suspect investors\u00a0might be &#8220;taking their eye off the ball&#8221;\u00a0as it relates to Elon and Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, Elon&#8217;s time will be fractured further with Twitter. And, yes, Twitter is fraught with politics, divisiveness, and (occasionally) funny memes. No doubt, it remains a lightning rod for controversy. But controversy gets clicks.\u00a0It all makes for great fodder in the media. Endless headlines\u00a0reflect\u00a0Elon&#8217;s (ahem) emotionally-charged business decision. But, let&#8217;s not forget, it&#8217;s a business decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instead,\u00a0let&#8217;s\u00a0examine Elon&#8217;s Twitter &#8220;relationship&#8221;\u00a0through the right\u00a0lens. In short: it&#8217;s\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0personal, it&#8217;s just business. Whether Musk makes money with Twitter remains to be seen. (YouTube:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/7LWzqCMs7Uc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Bloomberg Technology (Opens PDF)\">Bloomberg Technology<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Looking at this\u00a0<em>strictly<\/em>\u00a0through the business lens, I see Musk&#8217;s move to buy Twitter as both disruptive and brilliant.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/a-raft-of-reasons-why-tesla-doesn-t-need-an-advertising-budget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Tesla does not advertise (Opens PDF)\">Tesla does not advertise<\/a>. And,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/the-next-industry-for-elon-musk-to-disrupt-public-relations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Tesla doesn't even have a public relations team, PR agency, or a single PR contact at the company (Opens PDF)\">Tesla doesn&#8217;t even have a public relations team, PR agency, or a single PR contact at the company<\/a>. Nevertheless, Elon Musk has accrued over\u00a0<em>100 million followers<\/em>\u00a0on Twitter. And Twitter is where Tesla owners (and soon-to-be Tesla owners)\u00a0tend to congregate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk buying Twitter is a force multiplier for Tesla. It&#8217;s an important hub for savvy\u00a0journalists, business leaders, newsmakers, and\u00a0attention-hungry politicians to voice their\u00a0opinion. If Elon Musk\u00a0throws down and decides (eventually) to buy Twitter, the move should (eventually) lead to increased exposure for Tesla.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Case in point: old-school\u00a0automakers\u00a0advertise\u00a0their new electric cars all over the Super Bowl. This year, viewership for Super Bowl was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/216526\/super-bowl-us-tv-viewership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"about 100 million (Opens PDF)\">about 100 million<\/a>. In the meantime, Tesla, the world&#8217;s leading electric car company,\u00a0didn&#8217;t run\u00a0a single TV commercial. Why? Maybe because Elon Musk was too busy\u00a0sending tweets\u00a0to his\u00a0<em>100 million folllowers<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Guess what? Business deals like this aren&#8217;t all that uncommon. Looking back, Jeff Bezos bought the\u00a0Washington Post, an influential media outlet.
