{"id":34192,"date":"2022-10-20T12:04:06","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T16:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=34192"},"modified":"2022-10-20T12:04:06","modified_gmt":"2022-10-20T16:04:06","slug":"1137549_porsche-f1-entry-isn-t-dead-says-fia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=34192","title":{"rendered":"Porsche F1 entry isn&#8217;t dead, says FIA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Porsche remains committed to entering Formula 1, despite its plan for a partnership with Red Bull Racing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1137104_porsche-red-bull-f1-partnership-talks-end-without-deal\">collapsing in September<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s according to FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who on Wednesday following a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council said Porsche is still in discussions with F1 teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Spa-Francorchamps in August, Audi announced it was joining the FIA Formula One World Championship from 2026 as a power unit manufacturer,\u201d he said. \u201cWe also note that Porsche are still in discussions with Formula 1 teams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Porsche is also on the record as having stated it still desires an F1 entry, despite failing to reach a deal with Red Bull.<\/p>\n<p>Former Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess in May said Audi and Porsche had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1135736_vw-group-ceo-reportedly-confirms-audi-porsche-f1-entries\">both been approved<\/a> by the automaker to enter F1 in 2026, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1072394_2026-f1-power-unit-rules-finalized-pave-way-for-audi-porsche-to-enter-sport\">new power unit rules<\/a> focused on sustainability are due to be introduced.<\/p>\n<p>While Audi will enter as a power unit supplier, it will also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1136957_audi-to-enter-f1-in-2026\">partner with an existing team<\/a> whose identity will be revealed later this year. The team is expected to be Sauber whose current partnership with Alfa Romeo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1136958_sauber-f1-deal-with-alfa-romeo-ends-after-2023-paving-way-for-potential-audi-partnership\">ends after 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Porsche was expected to follow a similar path with Red Bull, but couldn&#8217;t achieve a deal that would have given it an \u201cequal footing\u201d when it came to control of the team. Negotiations then broke down in September.<\/p>\n<p>An alternative could be McLaren, which has previously ran F1 cars with Porsche power units. Furthermore, McLaren&#8217;s team principal, Andreas Seidl, was previously head of Porsche&#8217;s motorsport division and ran the automaker&#8217;s successful LMP1 program in the World Endurance Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Then there&#8217;s Williams which has a connection with the VW Group.
