Of course you do, because FCA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2014\/02\/23\/chrysler-200-convertible-dodge-avenger-cancelled-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">didn&#8217;t get around to discontinuing it<\/a> until 2014 (though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/photos\/7-discontinued-cars-that-arent-dead-yet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">new Avengers were still being sold as late as 2018<\/a>). It was based on a Mitsubishi Galant-derived platform that got DaimlerChrysler-ized prior to being dragooned into the far-flung <em><strong>F<\/strong>abbrica <strong>I<\/strong>taliana <strong>A<\/strong>utomobili di <strong>T<\/strong>orino<\/em> Imperium, making it a perfectly serviceable midsize sedan that lacked only a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2020\/08\/09\/junkyard-gem-1991-dodge-monaco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">dash of AMC\/Renault<\/a> and perhaps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/01\/02\/junkyard-gem-1988-dodge-omni-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Simca DNA<\/a> to be the representative of every company with which Chrysler did business during the 1980-2010 period. What some of us may have forgotten was that there was an R\/T version of the Avenger, and I&#8217;ve managed to find one of those rare machines in a Colorado boneyard.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/09\/13174344\/04-2008-Dodge-Avenger-RT-in-Colorado-Junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The second-generation (2008-2014) Avenger sold very well as a fleet vehicle, so most of the examples you&#8217;ll see are low-spec cars with the base engine and exteriors done up in Soporific Silver or Tedium White paint (not the actual names for those <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/colors\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">colors<\/a>). This one has shriekingly bright Sunburst Orange paint with graphics that wouldn&#8217;t have looked out of place on <a href=\"http:\/\/oldcarbrochures.org\/United%20States\/Plymouth\/1971%20Plymouth\/1971%20Plymouth%20Satellite\/slides\/1971_Plymouth_Satellite-10-11.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">the cars of Chrysler&#8217;s Lysergic Era<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/09\/13174342\/02-2008-Dodge-Avenger-RT-in-Colorado-Junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The list price of a base-grade 2008 Avenger SE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/buy\/2008-Dodge-Avenger\/specs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">was just $19,640<\/a>, while the front-wheel-drive Avenger R\/T had an MSRP of $24,220 that year (that&#8217;s about $27,555 and $33,985 in inflation-adjusted 2022 dollars). You could get an all-wheel-drive &#8217;08 Avenger R\/T for an additional two grand.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/09\/13174355\/16-2008-Dodge-Avenger-RT-in-Colorado-Junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The SE came with the 2.4-liter World Engine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_D7uaehSol0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">four-banger<\/a>, a powerplant developed by a Hyundai-Mitsubishi-Chrysler partnership that made 173 horses in 2008. The next step up was the 2.7-liter V6 engine originally designed for use in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2012\/03\/junkyard-find-1996-eagle-vision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">the Chrysler LH cars<\/a>, and then there was the R\/T&#8217;s mighty 3.5-liter <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chrysler_SOHC_V6_engine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">SOHC V6<\/a> (seen here dangling out the bottom of the car because some junkyard shopper yanked the transmission separately). You got 235 horsepower in your &#8217;08 Avenger R\/T, which was non-shabby for a car that scaled in at about 3,600 pounds. Later Avenger R\/Ts got a 283-horse Pentastar V6, which must have provided some front-tire-shredding, torque-steery fun.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/09\/13174350\/11-2008-Dodge-Avenger-RT-in-Colorado-Junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Someone bought most of the front body components before I got here.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/09\/13174359\/20-2008-Dodge-Avenger-RT-in-Colorado-Junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>I expected to see an angrier air freshener here.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/09\/13174346\/08-2008-Dodge-Avenger-RT-in-Colorado-Junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The later Avenger R\/T was a fairly powerful and well-equipped <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-values\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">car for the price<\/a>, but sedans just don&#8217;t sell well in our current truck-crazed century and the Avenger had to go.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"pga0tHKXdTA\" data-thumbnail=\"\"\/>\n<p>It would play <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Rfirxs_NUcE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">Deep Purple<\/a> on the dyno!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember the Dodge Avenger?
