{"id":34502,"date":"2022-10-25T09:03:50","date_gmt":"2022-10-25T13:03:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=34502"},"modified":"2022-10-25T09:03:50","modified_gmt":"2022-10-25T13:03:50","slug":"1137595_2023-toyota-crown-price-mpg-big-hybrid-sedan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=34502","title":{"rendered":"2023 Toyota Crown: $41,055, 41-mpg start for big hybrid sedan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Toyota this morning has announced pricing and confirmed EPA fuel economy figures for its upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136508_2023-toyota-crown-hybrid-max-revealed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 Crown sedan<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The short of it: The 2023 Toyota Crown is more expensive and less fuel-efficient than the outgoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1116522_2019-toyota-avalon-hybrid-first-drive-review-understated-efficiency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Toyota Avalon Hybrid<\/a>. But like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1129119_first-drive-review-2021-toyota-venza-hybrid-reinterprets-the-market-middle-at-39-mpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venza crossover<\/a> introduced for 2021, all versions of the Crown are all-wheel-drive hybrids. And the Crown\u2019s slightly elevated seating position, faux-rugged packaging, and what Toyota describes as a \u201cbroad rear end\u201d may cast a wider net than its posh but pigeonholed predecessor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The 2023 Toyota Crown starts at $41,055 for the XSE or $46,645 for the Limited. Both of these get a revamped version of Toyota\u2019s planetary hybrid system, with a deployment of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1134372_toyota-battery-plant-hybrids-us-built-evs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery<\/a> helping to achieve 41 mpg combined\u20143 mpg better than Toyota had anticipated when it first revealed the Crown in July, and only 2 mpg lower than the outgoing Avalon Hybrid.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100847960_m\" title=\"2023 Toyota Crown\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Toyota Crown\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"683\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-toyota-crown_100847960_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2023-toyota-crown_100847960_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-toyota-crown_100847960_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-toyota-crown_100847960_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2023-toyota-crown_100847960_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2023-toyota-crown_100847960_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Toyota Crown<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Crown Platinum, for $53,445, has a different set of components underneath. It\u2019s the first model in the U.S. to get Toyota\u2019s Hybrid Max performance-hybrid system, which adds a higher-power motor to drive the rear wheels directly and ditches the planetary torque split layout in front for a six-speed automatic transmission and electric motor system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Toyota describes the Hybrid Max system much like Lexus does the system in the top-performance version of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137102_2023-lexus-rx-450h-plug-in-hybrid-test-drive-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lexus RX lineup<\/a>, the RX 500h; here in the Crown it achieves an estimated 30 mpg combined\u20142 mpg better than originally anticipated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100847957_m\" title=\"2023 Toyota Crown\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Toyota Crown\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"683\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-toyota-crown_100847957_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2023-toyota-crown_100847957_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-toyota-crown_100847957_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-toyota-crown_100847957_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2023-toyota-crown_100847957_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2023-toyota-crown_100847957_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Toyota Crown<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Platinum versions also get unique 21-inch wheels plus variable oil-pressure shocks and an e-axle system for traction. All Crowns are built on Toyota\u2019s TNGA-K platform, and the automaker emphasizes that, as with the Avalon, quiet and refinement are top priorities and the Crown is a \u201csanctuary on the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">If these sound like conflicting but intriguing priorities, you\u2019re not alone.
