The prototype in our spy shots fits that description, though we don’t know yet about the electrification.

The prototype is heavily camouflaged but there are elements common to the current Highlander, like the side mirrors, wheel arch shape, and wheel arch surround surface details. The bigger size should attract big families looking for more space than what the current three-row Highlander offers, without them having to step up to the more truck-like Sequoia.

It’s a likely bet powertrains will also be shared between the Highlander and Grand Highlander. The Highlander offers the choice of a 3.5-liter V-6 good for 295 hp or a hybrid powertrain with a 2.4-liter inline-4 and pair of electric motors generating a combined 240 hp. However, given the size of the Grand Highlander, there’s the chance the hybrid powertrain will feature a 2.4-liter turbo-4 to help boost output to 340 hp.
