That&#8217;s certainly one way to attract some attention.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t have the skinny on the lady, but the Testarossa Spider is straight out of the annals of wretched excess. It goes on the <a href=\"https:\/\/rmsothebys.com\/en\/auctions\/LF22\/London\/lots\/r0021-1990-Ferrari-Testarossa-Pininfarina-Spider-Special-Production\/1300792?&amp;utm_source=rmsothebys.com&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=LF22&amp;utm_term=LF22_FerrariVideo&amp;_cldee=rRh6xuJVjDoOb-7D1oWW3UCefx-YwrHiFbHPqPpz4RAbrnWYPgiLC0O-nficiazH&amp;recipientid=contact-5a7f6a223a5be6119f6414feb5caa464-42e522cb0c3947f9974cb954a8e1b112&amp;esid=21728b5d-4e55-ed11-828a-000c2971a03a\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">auction block in London<\/a> next Saturday with opening bids at $1.6 million. The video is a teaser tweet for the event.<\/p>\n<p>According to documentation offered by the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/auction-action\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">auction<\/a> house of RM Sotheby\u2019s, this 1990 stunner, a \u201cSpecial Production\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/pininfarina.it\/en\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Pininfarina-engineered<\/a> convertible, was part of a custom lot of Ferraris commissioned by a high-roller in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&amp;q=sultan+of+brunei\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Brunei royalty<\/a> household. In 2021, when, according to Sotheby\u2019s, it was \u201crevived from its life-long state of static display,\u201d the car was shuttled to two factories in <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/italy\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Italy<\/a> for \u201crestoration.\u201d\u00a0 The cost was 94,300 Euros to <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/auto-repair\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">repair<\/a> the top\u2019s latch and repaint the machine. \u00a0Another 83,170 Euros was budgeted to fiddle with a new clutch and \u201crefresh\u201d the interior. Lay <em>those <\/em>numbers on your local garage.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s believed, the press release goes on to say, that, in the end, Pininfarina made seven almost identical but ultimately unique &#8220;Spider&#8221; adaptations, \u201ceach finished in a different exterior and interior <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/colors\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">color<\/a> combination.\u201d \u00a0And, in addition to these Brunei cars, a very small number of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ferrari_Testarossa\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Testarossa Spiders,<\/a> like the one to go on auction, were built for important clients, including the current consignor, who ordered his (or hers) in 1989.
