{"id":34903,"date":"2022-10-31T05:57:32","date_gmt":"2022-10-31T09:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=34903"},"modified":"2022-10-31T05:57:32","modified_gmt":"2022-10-31T09:57:32","slug":"tesla-bot-strength-lifting-piano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=34903","title":{"rendered":"Tesla Bot showcases its strength by lifting a piano with a single motor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tesla has showcased the strength of its actuator technology for Tesla Bot, its humanoid robot, by having a single leg actuator of the robot lift an entire piano.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the logic for Tesla to venture into creating a humanoid robot, which doesn\u2019t seem aligned with its mission to accelerate the advent of sustainable energy and transport, was that the automaker felt like its vehicles were already \u201crobots on wheels\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla believed that a lot of its existing technology and expertise would transfer well to a bipedal robot and therefore, it felt like it was in a good position to deliver on this potentially world-changing idea of having functional humanoid robots.<\/p>\n<p>For example, like its electric vehicles, the robot is powered by batteries, it is equipped with the same self-driving computer and similar sensor suite to power its vision system, and Tesla already has experience developing electric motors and actuators, which are also used to power robots.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2018\/02\/27\/tesla-model-3-motor-designer-permanent-magnet-motor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Konstantinos Laskaris<\/a>, Tesla\u2019s Principal Motor Designer, has been in charge of developing electric motors and actuators for Tesla\u2019s vehicles for over a decade at this point.<\/p>\n<p>His team has now been tasked to develop actuators specifically for <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/09\/30\/tesla-optimus-humanoid-robot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla Optimus, the latest version of the Tesla Bot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At Tesla\u2019s AI Day last month, the company unveiled the latest Tesla Optimus prototype equipped with Tesla-designed actuators for the first time rather than off-the-shelves products.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Tesla Bot showcases its strength by lifting a piano with a single motor\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1122\" src=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Tesla-Bot-Optimus-prototype.jpg?quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1000\" alt=\"Tesla Bot Optimus prototype\" class=\"wp-image-263211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Tesla-Bot-Optimus-prototype.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Tesla-Bot-Optimus-prototype.jpg?resize=150,88 150w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Tesla-Bot-Optimus-prototype.jpg?resize=300,175 300w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Tesla-Bot-Optimus-prototype.jpg?resize=768,449 768w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Tesla-Bot-Optimus-prototype.jpg?resize=1024,598 1024w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Tesla-Bot-Optimus-prototype.jpg?resize=1536,898 1536w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Tesla-Bot-Optimus-prototype.jpg?resize=350,205 350w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Tesla-Bot-Optimus-prototype.jpg?resize=1600,935 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Unfortunately, the prototype was so recent that Tesla wasn\u2019t ready to make it walk just yet at the event.<\/p>\n<p>The robot is equipped with 28 structural actuators including two primary leg actuators.<\/p>\n<p>While it couldn\u2019t show it walk, Tesla has decided to now release a new video showcasing just how strong Tesla Bot\u2019s primary leg actuators are by having a single actuator lift a half-ton\/500kg concert grand piano:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"post-youtube-video\" title=\"Tesla Bot's Leg Actuator Lifting a Half-Ton Piano\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dliVT8cKOsc?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
