Global sustainable energy giants\u00a0Hitachi Energy<\/a> and Equinor<\/a> today announced that they have signed a strategic collaboration agreement. They\u2019re going to join forces on global electrification, renewable power generation, and low-carbon initiatives.<\/p>\n

The two companies have worked together over many decades. Hitachi\u00a0Energy provided\u00a0Equinor\u00a0with power grid solutions and technologies on several projects, such as the UK\u2019s Dogger Bank A, B and C, which will be the world\u2019s largest offshore wind farm on completion.<\/p>\n

Now Hitachi and Equinor are taking their working relationship to the next level. They\u2019ll initially focus on jointly developing standardized base designs to be applied for high-voltage direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) transmission systems to connect offshore wind farms and Equinor production facilities to mainland power grids.<\/p>\n

Geir Tungesvik, executive vice president for projects, drilling and procurement at\u00a0Equinor, said:<\/p>\n

Hitachi\u00a0Energy has been a reliable supplier to\u00a0Equinor\u00a0for many years. This strategic collaboration agreement is a signal of joint ambitions to increase our competitiveness in the ongoing energy transition. Standardization of technical solutions will be a key to succeed, and we look forward to improving together with\u00a0Hitachi\u00a0Energy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hitachi\u2019s spokesperson told Electrek<\/em> that it will provide its products and services to all existing and new\u00a0Equinor\u00a0customers in the countries in which\u00a0Equinor\u00a0is active, which are primarily Norway, the UK, Poland, the US, Korea, Japan, and Brazil.<\/p>\n

In October, Electrek<\/em> reported that Hitachi Energy\u00a0announced that it would spend more than $37 million to expand and upgrade its power transformer factory in South Boston, Virginia. That decision was in response to soaring demand for power transformers from utility companies that are scrambling to accommodate the renewable energy boom after the Biden administration passed the\u00a0Inflation Reduction Act in August<\/a>.<\/p>\n
