Power, to the era of supply and demand.<\/p>\n<p>In a recently published survey from one of the auto industry\u2019s top analytical firms, findings show that customers&#8217; satisfaction with vehicle purchases in the United States this year has dipped for the first time in 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jdpower.com\/business\/press-releases\/2022-us-sales-satisfaction-index-ssi-study\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\">2022 U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) Study<\/a> found that overall sales satisfaction has dropped to 786 (on a 1,000-point scale) from 789 in 2021. In that year, higher than expected <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-values\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">trade-in<\/a> values softened the effect of <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/research\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">new vehicle<\/a> price increases. But in 2022, on top of trade-in prices shrinking, many <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-dealers\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">dealers<\/a> elected to charge more than the Manufacturer\u2019s Suggested Retail Price, a factor that did not sit well with buyers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen dealers charge more than MSRP, particularly with long-term loyal customers, they risk a potential long-term negative effect on customer advocacy and service business,&#8221; said Chris Sutton, vice president of automotive retail at J.D. Power. Satisfaction among buyers who paid more than sticker price is 757, while satisfaction among those who paid the sticker price or less is 850, the Power report said.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-dealers\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">dealership<\/a> inventory was also a customer irritant, J.D. Power found, a point that automakers and their dealers may want to consider. Many have maintained, or considered maintaining, a smaller inventory in the wake of the pandemic, keeping costs down and driving more customers toward factory orders.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding those consumers shopping for <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/electric\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">electric vehicles<\/a>, the survey said that more than a third of them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jdpower.com\/business\/press-releases\/2022-us-sales-satisfaction-index-ssi-study\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">\u201cfailed to get instruction on EV charging<\/a> before they left the dealership, which notably affects satisfaction.\u201d Said Sutton, \u201cSalespeople don\u2019t need to show gas-powered vehicle buyers how to fill their tank, but they do need to show EV buyers how to charge their vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are positives to the Power conclusions, however, especially for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alfaromeousa.com\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">Alfa Romeo<\/a> dealers. The Italian brand ranked highest in customer satisfaction among premium brands with a score of 833, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/porsche\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">Porsche<\/a> a very close second (831) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/11\/14\/2023-lexus-lx600-features-prices\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Lexus<\/a> (819) third. Alfa is on something of a roll these days, with its compact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alfaromeousa.com\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">Tonale<\/a> <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/crossover\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">crossover<\/a> due for release in the spring, and a new <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/performance\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">sports car<\/a> in the works.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in Power\u2019s \u201cmainstream brand\u201d\u201d segment, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/buick\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">Buick<\/a> ranked first with a score of 825, followed by Dodge (816) and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.subaru.com\/index.html?GOOGLE700000001067987Subaru+TP_Core71700000010389999General58700000469040864Subarup684208651843700006842086518&amp;s_kwcid=subaru&amp;s_kwid=keyword&amp;s_kwcid=Subaru&amp;ds_kids=p6842086518&amp;ds_kid=43700006842086518&amp;utm_source=paid-search&amp;utm_medium=google_cpc&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiAjs2bBhACEiwALTBWZYhiW3fSmUceuvTXdRuSjKtm38PnVUw_4sXChOf2bhghSx0BFe0cQhoCqU8QAvD_BwE&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\"> Subaru<\/a> (804), all performing higher than the industry average.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-half\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/11\/15160033\/Screen-Shot-2022-11-15-at-3.55.17-PM.png\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-half\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/11\/15160034\/Screen-Shot-2022-11-15-at-3.55.41-PM.png\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vehicle inventory low, vehicle transaction prices high, customers fretting \u2026 welcome, J.D.
