Oh, sure, the Civic-based <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/cr_v\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">CR-V<\/a> appeared here for the 1997 model year and sold well enough, but the lack of a larger SUV pained Honda more with each passing year. With the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/acura\/mdx\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">Acura MDX<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/pilot\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">Honda Pilot<\/a> not ready for showrooms until the 2001 and 2002 model years, respectively, some stopgap had to be found. <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/isuzu\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Isuzu<\/a> stepped up and made a deal with Honda: the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/isuzu\/rodeo\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Rodeo<\/a> would get Honda badges and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2012\/04\/junkyard-find-1996-honda-passport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">become the Passport<\/a>, while the Trooper would show up in <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/acura\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">Acura<\/a> showrooms <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2018\/11\/27\/junkyard-gem-1997-acura-slx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">with SLX badges<\/a> (for the 1994 and 1995 model years, respectively). Here&#8217;s one of those <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/passport\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Passports<\/a>, found in a Denver-area self-service yard.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1600x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/15173138\/139-2000-Honda-Passport-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Things got even weirder in the Isuzu\/Honda world around the turn of the century, with the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/odyssey\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">Honda Odyssey<\/a> getting Isuzu badges and being sold as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2019\/06\/16\/junkyard-gem-1998-isuzu-oasis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">the Oasis<\/a>. Fast-forward to 2009, and the only Isuzu-badged vehicles available new here were rebadged Chevrolets: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/car-life\/classic-cars\/a37302754\/2005-isuzu-ascender-is-junkyard-treasure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">the I-Series pickup<\/a> (<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/colorado\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">Chevy Colorado<\/a>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2018\/03\/18\/junkyard-gem-2005-isuzu-ascender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">the Ascender<\/a> (<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/trailblazer\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">Chevy Trailblazer<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1600x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/15173126\/122-2000-Honda-Passport-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Passport name has some interesting American Honda history, stretching back to the first Honda vehicle sold here (and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2017\/10\/23\/honda-builds-100-millionth-super-cub-motorcycle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">the biggest-selling motor vehicle in human history<\/a>): <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2012\/04\/how-honda-survived-the-vigor-the-del-sol-and-the-lawsuits-super-cub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:17;\">the Super Cub<\/a>. American Honda Motor Company couldn&#8217;t use the Super Cub name on our shores, because Piper Aircraft had been selling <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Piper_PA-18_Super_Cub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:18;\">a small plane called the Super Cub<\/a> since 1949, so <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WwWaPOlzWnI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:19;\">the motorcycle was called the Honda 50<\/a> over here. Eventually, this bike got a 70cc engine and became <a href=\"https:\/\/itstillruns.com\/honda-c70-passport-specs-6919185.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:20;\">the Honda C70 Passport<\/a>, sales of which continued through the middle 1980s. So much history in the junkyard!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1600x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/15173119\/112-2000-Honda-Passport-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Just as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2017\/07\/17\/junkyard-gem-1991-geo-prizm-gsi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:34;\">Geo-badged Toyota Corollas<\/a> (mostly) got Delco radios, so did the Passport get Honda radios. Actually, this radio probably was made by either Mitsubishi or Fujitsu TEN, but it has Honda labeling.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1600x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/15173130\/128-2000-Honda-Passport-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The first-generation (1994-1997) Passports could be purchased with either a straight-four or a V6 under the hood, but the 1998-2002 models all came with this SOHC 3.2-liter V6, rated at 205 horsepower.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1600x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/15173118\/110-2000-Honda-Passport-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The cheapest 2000 Passports had two-wheel-drive and five-speed manual transmissions, but this one is an optioned up four-wheel-drive with a four-speed automatic.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1600x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/15173131\/130-2000-Honda-Passport-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The interior is worn but not completely trashed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1600x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/15173121\/115-2000-Honda-Passport-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The digital gauge cluster means I can&#8217;t read the odometer without <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aZ_DzGaUOnc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:35;\">powering up the truck&#8217;s ECU<\/a>, but we can assume the final mile total was respectable.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1600x900\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/15173145\/151-2000-Honda-Passport-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/acura\/mdx\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:36;\">MDX<\/a> appeared the year after this truck was sold, and the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/pilot\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:37;\">Pilot<\/a> the year after that.
