The GLC name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2014\/10\/junkyard-find-1985-mazda-glc-hatchback\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">stuck around through 1985<\/a>, after which the Familia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2020\/03\/14\/junkyard-gem-1986-mazda-323-dx-hatchback\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">became the 323<\/a> on our shores. Mazda sold the wagon version of the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/bmw\/323\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">323<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/car-life\/classic-cars\/a37158392\/1980-mazda-glc-wagon-is-junkyard-treasure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">on the old RWD platform<\/a> here through 1983, then revived the longroof 323 for the 1987-89 model years. Here&#8217;s one of those extraordinarily rare cars, found in <a href=\"https:\/\/upullandpay.com\/locations\/aurora-co\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">a Colorado self-service yard<\/a> recently.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/21181003\/42-1987-Mazda-323-Wagon-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The 323 DX wagon listed at $8,899 for 1987 (about $23,750 in 2022 dollars), making it competitive with the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/honda\/civic\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Honda Civic<\/a> DX ($8,330), <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/nissan\/sentra\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">Nissan Sentra<\/a> XE ($9,399) and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/subaru\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">Subaru<\/a> GL ($10,238) station wagons that year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/10\/10\/junkyard-gem-1990-volkswagen-fox-station-wagon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">The Volkswagen Fox<\/a> was the screamingest deal on a small wagon in America that year, with an MSRP of just $6,590.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/21180955\/30-1987-Mazda-323-Wagon-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Of course, this wagon cost a lot more than the list price, because of costly options such as this automatic transmission. If you wanted your 323 with a slushbox instead of the base five-speed manual, the price tag was $<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/bmw\/430\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">430<\/a> ($1,145 today).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/10\/21180956\/31-1987-Mazda-323-Wagon-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/lucid\/air\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">Air<\/a> conditioning would have added another $715 ($1,910 in 2022 dollars), but this car&#8217;s original buyer skipped that expense.
