Tesla China says there will be no more price cuts this year.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-267618\"\/><ins class=\"adsbygoogle author_ad ad-container adsbygoogle author_ad hide-lg author-in-content\" data-ad-host=\"ca-host-pub-5506057612223327\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4655152367470280\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Over the last few months, Tesla has pulled on several \u201cdemand levers\u201d to boost demand in China.<\/p>\n<p>We reported last month that Tesla\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/10\/24\/tesla-pulls-demand-levers-china-launches-referral-program-cuts-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reduced the price of the Model 3 and Model Y in China and launched a new referral program<\/a>. It was the first time in two years that Tesla cut prices on its electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Later, the automaker also <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/11\/08\/tesla-pulls-another-demand-lever-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched a new cash rebate with its insurance partners <\/a>in China.<\/p>\n<p>At first, local media in China reported that these strategies to boost demand worked and even crashed Tesla\u2019s Chinese website with people looking to configure a car.<\/p>\n<p>However, now several media reports out of China claim that the incentives didn\u2019t actually have the expected impact.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/finance.sina.com.cn\/tech\/it\/2022-11-22\/doc-imqmmthc5542000.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sina Technology News<\/a> <\/em>reported that the demand levers only brought about half the amount of orders that were expected:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"16\">\n<p>It is reported that Tesla has launched two rounds of heavyweight price cuts and promotions in the past month.\u00a0However, the two rounds of promotions did not receive the desired effect from Tesla.\u00a0After announcing the price cut, Tesla China\u2019s official website was \u201cparalyzed\u201d by the influx of traffic, but according to Sun Shaojun, the founder of Auto Fans, only about 50,000 orders were received by Tesla in this round. Rather than the 100,000-170,000 rumored by the outside world.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In another report from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huxiu.com\/article\/718586.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Huxiu<\/em><\/a>, it was rumored that Tesla planned to lower further its prices in China (translated from Chinese):<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"8\">\n<p>After two sales promotions, Tesla\u2019s order increase is still lower than expected, and it will launch a new \u201cprice reduction method\u201d before the end of the year to boost sales.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, Tesla China has since denied the rumors \u2013 indicating that there will be no further price decrease this year, which ends either in under 40 days or 60 days depending which calendar they are referring to. <\/p>\n<p>Unlike in the US, Tesla still has a press relations department in China and still communicates with the press \u2013 sometimes denying reports like this one.<\/p>\n<p>While Tesla denied further price decreases this year, it could eventually still reduce the price next year in China where rules for EV incentives are expected to change in 2023.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-disclaimer-container\" readability=\"6.3518518518519\">\n<p class=\"disclaimer-affiliate\"><em>FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links.<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/about\/#affiliate\">More.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3t9kf2a\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-846591 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/Electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/CARBO-Electrek-Ad.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"150\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tesla is trying to quash rumors of low demand in China following new discounts offered by the automaker.
