The 0 will never be a mass-market vehicle, though. Lightyear previously said it&#8217;s planning a run of just 150 cars with a roughly $260,000 price tag. Rather than just a few extra miles from being parked in the sun all day, the firm says it can recover 7.5 miles from each hour. It bills this as a way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1126269_lightyear-one-solar-electric-car-aims-to-leapfrog-the-grid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leapfrog the grid<\/a> and rely less on charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100844537_m\" title=\"Lightyear 0\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Lightyear 0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/lightyear-0_100844537_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/lightyear-0_100844537_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/lightyear-0_100844537_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/lightyear-0_100844537_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/lightyear-0_100844537_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/lightyear-0_100844537_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Lightyear 0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Lightyear claims it and contractor Valmet are the first to &#8220;manufacture an electric vehicle that generates power directly from sunlight.&#8221; The Lightyear 0 isn&#8217;t unique in using solar power to charge a battery pack, though.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the same facility that just started building the Lightyear 0 is also slated to produce the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1135508_sono-sion-solar-ev-will-be-built-in-finland-not-sweden-in-change-of-manufacturing-partners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sono Sion<\/a>, which applies the solar-charging concept to a more conventional hatchback shape.
