This reduces the manufacturer-estimated 0-60 mph time to 4.2 seconds, but Polestar claims the performance boost will mostly be felt at speeds between 44 and 80 mph. With the update, 50-75 mph acceleration drops by half a second, to 2.2 seconds, according to Polestar.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100839048_m\" title=\"2023 Polestar 2\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Polestar 2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-polestar-2_100839048_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2023-polestar-2_100839048_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-polestar-2_100839048_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-polestar-2_100839048_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2023-polestar-2_100839048_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2023-polestar-2_100839048_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Polestar 2<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>This puts the dual-motor Polestar 2 in the same vicinity as the Tesla Model 3 Performance. Anecdotally, the upgrade makes no dent to efficiency or range, Polestar says.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn&#8217;t necessarily suggest that with the upgrade the Polestar 2 might achieve the same EPA-cycle results\u2014and this is new ground for how such an example will be treated. The dual-motor Polestar 2 is currently EPA-rated at 260 miles of range and 100 MPGe combined.<\/p>\n<p>Polestar confirmed to Green Car Reports that the upgrade can be applied to any dual-motor Polestar 2\u2014including models from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 model years.<\/p>\n<p>Like Tesla, Polestar has shown that it can deploy fixes for recall issues quickly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1131626_polestar-and-volvo-ev-recall-shows-the-strength-of-over-the-air-updates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over the air<\/a>. It did just that in 2021 to fix a powertrain issue in some of the earliest Polestar 2 EVs shipped to the U.S. Like that fix, the new performance software can be downloaded and installed over the air without a visit to a service center. Polestar also has more powerful models in the works. The future Polestar 5 will be a performance flagship, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136272_polestar-5-confirmed-with-884-hp-800-volt-architecture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">884 hp and an 800-volt architecture<\/a>.
