The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1134362_did-nissan-just-show-the-successor-to-the-leaf-electric-car\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ariya crossover isn\u2019t replacing Leaf<\/a>:\u00a0Nissan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133108_2022-nissan-leaf-price-cut-cheapest-electric-car-in-the-us-market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lowered the Leaf\u2019s price<\/a> a couple years ago, seemingly to make room for the Ariya.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136258_2023-nissan-leaf-price\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 Nissan Leaf<\/a> sees some feature changes, within a slimmed-down lineup, and some details reveal slight gains in efficiency for the long-running electric hatchback.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100836122_m\" title=\"2023 Nissan Leaf\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Nissan Leaf\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"684\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-leaf_100836122_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/nissan-leaf_100836122_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-leaf_100836122_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-leaf_100836122_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/nissan-leaf_100836122_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/nissan-leaf_100836122_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Nissan Leaf<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">From a configuration standpoint, the battery pack shifts from 62 kwh to 60 kwh. It\u2019s the most significant update to the Leaf since the 2019 model&#8217;s Plus edition gained its 62-kwh battery pack. That pushed the Leaf, for the first time, past the 200-mile barrier that some might say distinguishes a long-range EV.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">By the EPA ratings, range with the newly downsized pack dips slightly, but efficiency rises slightly. The 2022 Nissan Leaf earned 104 MPGe combined in SV or SL form with the 62-kwh battery pack, amounting to a 215-mile range, or 108 MPGe in base S Plus form (no longer offered), bringing a 226-mile range. The 2023 Leaf SV earns a 109 MPGe combined rating and a 212-mile range, although it\u2019s the EPA\u2019s city-cycle numbers that factor into that most significantly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The battery pack change isn\u2019t just capacity (gross, not usable, in the Leaf\u2019s case). Nissan told Green Car Reports that there are actual battery-chemistry changes at play, as well as what Nissan describes as \u201cminor aerodynamic enhancements for this model year.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100836118_m\" title=\"2023 Nissan Leaf\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Nissan Leaf\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"682\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-leaf_100836118_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/nissan-leaf_100836118_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-leaf_100836118_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-leaf_100836118_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/nissan-leaf_100836118_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/nissan-leaf_100836118_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Nissan Leaf<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The changes \u201callowed us to maintain the great value of Leaf with minimal\u2014if any\u2014impact on range,\u201d according to Nissan communications manager Dan Passe. The Leaf, which is U.S.-built, starts at $36,895 in its 60-kwh version, or just $28,895 in base 40-kwh form, and until the end of the year it\u2019s still eligible for the full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137817_bill-seeks-delay-of-ev-tax-credit-american-sourcing-rules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$7,500 EV tax credit<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Leaf remains noteworthy as the only air-cooled EV for the U.S. market, and Nissan has made a series of running changes to the chemistry that, after more than a decade on the market, make the Leaf\u2019s pack less prone to heat and range degradation than earlier versions.
