The Microlino does that much better than bicycles \u2014 it&#8217;s weather protected, you have space for cargo, you can have two people sitting next to each other,&#8221; Ouboter told <em>Reuters<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-5\">&#8220;Because it&#8217;s smaller than a conventional car it consumes less material to make it, and it has a smaller <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/battery\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">battery<\/a> which means it uses less electricity,&#8221; his brother Merlin added. &#8220;So the ecological footprint is about a third of a conventional <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/electric\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">electric car<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-6\">More than 35,000 reservations have been received for the Microlino, which is being built in <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/italy\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">Italy<\/a> and costs upwards of 15,000 Swiss francs ($16,195).<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article-body__container__3ypuX article-body__over-6-para__1Ov64\">\n<div class=\"article-body__content__17Yit paywall-article\">\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-7\">The Oubuters&#8217; parents \u2014 whose company has sold 90 million kick scooters \u2014 have invested more than 10 million francs in the project, although the brothers declined to specify how much.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-8\">More known for chocolate, watches and banking, Switzerland did have a car industry in the early 20th century, with long forgotten brands such as Ajax, Fischer and Turicum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-9\">High production costs and a tiny home market doomed many, although Switzerland does host some niche manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-10\">&#8220;Ideas can be developed in Switzerland, the marketing is taking place here, but the mass production somewhere else.
