{"id":38694,"date":"2022-12-21T00:04:28","date_gmt":"2022-12-21T05:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=38694"},"modified":"2022-12-21T00:04:28","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T05:04:28","slug":"ac-cobra-gt-roadster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=38694","title":{"rendered":"The AC Cobra will be reborn \u2014 bigger and more modern, AC Cars says &#8211; Autoblog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Somewhere up there, <a href=\"https:\/\/carrollshelby.com\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\">Carroll Shelby<\/a> is smiling.<\/p>\n<p>The unmistakable<a href=\"https:\/\/accars.eu\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\"> AC Cobra<\/a>, the two-seat British-made roadster known to most Americans as the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/shelby+cobra\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">Shelby Cobra<\/a>, is to be reborn next year with a V8 motor generating <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/bmw\/645\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">645<\/a> horsepower and a new name: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/all-new-654bhp-ac-cobra-gt-roadster-arrive-2023\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">AC Cobra GT Roadster<\/a> \u2014 so says\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/accars.eu\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">AC Cars,<\/a> which claims to be Britain\u2019s oldest (122 years) automaker, and says it&#8217;s nearing the end of a three-year development phase on the car.<\/p>\n<p>Though details are sparse, AC says the lightweight <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/performance\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">sports car<\/a> will be fitted with a Ford 5.0 Coyote V8 with the option of a supercharged engine that produces 654 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque, sufficient to send it from 0 to 60 mph in around 3.6 seconds. It will be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a 10-speed automatic.<\/p>\n<p>With an extruded aluminum space frame chassis and hand-finished manufacturing process developed by Icona Design Group and Cecomp Spa in Italy, the Cobra GT roadster is the largest AC Cobra to date. The powertrain is housed in a redesigned body shell larger than that of the existing Cobra \u2014 170 inches long (14 inches longer) <span style=\"font-size: 0.99em;\">with a wheelbase of 101 inches (11 inches longer). The car will weigh around 1,400 kilos (3,080 pounds).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-half\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/12\/20173642\/ac-cobra-gt-roadster-first-images-2022-mobile.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-half\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2022\/12\/20174206\/ac-cobra-gt-roadster-first-photo-shooting-revealed-2022-mobile1.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The new model, the company says, won\u2019t sacrifice modern touches, and will include air conditioning, electric windows, sophisticated in-car entertainment and the option of a removable hardtop.<\/p>\n<p>The car was originally launched as the<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AC_Ace\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\"> AC Ace<\/a> in 1953 until <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/auto\/american-racing-legend-carroll-shelby-dead-at-89\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">Carroll Shelby teamed up with AC<\/a> and jammed a 260 cubic-inch Ford V8 into it to create the Cobra for 1962. Shelby had originally approached <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Chevrolet<\/a> for a motor, but they passed. Next up for Shelby was Ford, which welcomed the opportunity to market a car to compete with the Corvette.<\/p>\n<p>Countless replicas and many iterations of the Cobra have been built over the years, but first original car still exists and was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2016\/08\/20\/first-shelby-cobra-13-million-record-price-auction\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">auctioned in 2016<\/a> for more than $13 million.<\/p>\n<p>The AC Cobra GT is expected to be revealed in the spring in London.
