This time it has nothing to do with the battery pack or electric propulsion.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;GM is voluntarily recalling certain 2017-2023 model year Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles due to rare instances of front seat belt pretensioner exhaust gases coming in contact with floor carpeting fibers, after a vehicle crash,\u201d explained GM in a statement provided to Green Car Reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The recall doesn\u2019t apply to Bolt EUV models, nor does it apply to Bolt EVs put to use by GM\u2019s Cruise autonomous-driving venture. The Bolt EV remains one of the most affordable new EVs available in the U.S.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100781586_m\" title=\"2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"682\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/chevrolet-bolt_100781586_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/chevrolet-bolt_100781586_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/chevrolet-bolt_100781586_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/chevrolet-bolt_100781586_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/chevrolet-bolt_100781586_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/chevrolet-bolt_100781586_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Seat belt pretensioners essentially cinch the belt tight just before or during an impact, allowing seat belts to function as tested, and to keep passengers in position for other safety systems such as airbags.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The issue could result in a vehicle fire if the carpet ignites. According to GM, that\u2019s resulted in three \u201cpotentially relevant field incidents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The recall, posted Monday by Transport Canada, has not yet been posted by its U.S. NHTSA counterpart. In Canada, the recall affects 19,898 vehicles from those model years. GM says that the recall will involve 119,950 vehicles in the U.S., adding up to 139,848 affected vehicles in North America.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">GM explained that, as a solution, dealers will install metal foil at the carpet near the pretensioner exhaust.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100843966_m\" title=\"2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"682\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-chevrolet-bolt-ev_100843966_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2023-chevrolet-bolt-ev_100843966_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-chevrolet-bolt-ev_100843966_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-chevrolet-bolt-ev_100843966_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2023-chevrolet-bolt-ev_100843966_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2023-chevrolet-bolt-ev_100843966_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Chevy Bolt EV owners\u2014and dealerships\u2014are all too familiar with large-scale recalls. In 2021, GM tackled a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1133316_gm-expands-battery-fire-recall-to-chevy-bolt-euv-every-bolt-ev-made\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">battery-fire-related recall of the Bolt EV<\/a> that applied to every Bolt EV made, leading to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1135727_chevy-bolt-ev-battery-recall-update-nearly-half-have-been-remedied\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full battery-pack replacement<\/a> for a large portion of the older vehicle population from the 2017-2019 model years.
