One southern Ontario resident was able to keep the lights on for almost two days after plugging in his <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/ford-f-150-lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ford F-150 Lightning<\/a>, and still had plenty of battery left after the power came back on.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-273815\"\/><ins class=\"adsbygoogle author_ad ad-container adsbygoogle author_ad hide-lg author-in-content\" data-ad-host=\"ca-host-pub-5506057612223327\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9669137141129422\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"\/><\/p>\n<h2>Ford Lightning powers home after a severe winter storm<\/h2>\n<p>When Ford released the F-150 Lightning electric pickup, the company called it \u201cthe smartest, most innovative F-150 that Ford has ever built,\u201d referring to it as the truck of the future.<\/p>\n<p>However, as Kumar Galhotra, president of Ford Blue, explains: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"6\">\n<p>We\u2019re not here to make an electric truck for the few \u2013 Ford is committed to building one that solves real problems for real people.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And that\u2019s exactly what Ford did. Ford was the first in the US to offer <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/bidirectional-charging\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bidirectional charging<\/a> capabilities on an electric truck with Intelligent Backup Power, which \u201cprovides full-home power for up to three days or as long as ten days,\u201d depending on energy usage.<\/p>\n<p>The Ford Lightning also includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ford.com\/support\/how-tos\/electric-vehicles\/home-charging\/pro-power-onboard\/\">Pro Power Onboard<\/a>, providing up to 9.6 kW of power spread across 11 outlets, including a 240V outlet in the bed.<\/p>\n<p>After a severe winter storm hit Ontario, leaving thousands without power, Hydro One, an electricity distribution company serving the area, said in <a href=\"https:\/\/hydroone.mediaroom.com\/2022-12-23-Hydro-One-restores-power-to-more-than-110,000-customers-across-the-province-more-outages-expected-as-winter-storm-continues-into-Saturday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a statement<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"8\">\n<p>As the winter storm continues to affect the province, we urge our customers to prepare for possible outages. Our skilled team is working tirelessly to make repairs and restore power in areas that have been affected.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>One Ford Lightning owner used his electric pickup\u2019s powerful battery to power their home essentials for 44 hours. RapsFanLJ posted a picture of his EV pickup on Reddit, saying, \u201cthis baby saved us.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Although it wasn\u2019t wired to the home\u2019s panel, the owner ran two extension cords with a splitter to power the refrigerators, freezers, Wi-Fi, select lights, and TV for nearly two full days. The electric truck is already proving to be the \u201ctruck of the future\u201d Ford envisioned, and customers just began receiving them earlier this year.
