There was much discussion about this \u201cNeue Klasse\u201d concept\u2019s possibilities, due to reach buyers in only three years, and much to say about the car\u2019s interior.<\/p>\n<p>But not much to see.<\/p>\n<p>In a keynote speech at the show, Oliver Zipse, chairman of the board of management of <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/bmw\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">BMW<\/a> AG, showed an image, certainly one that qualifies as a teaser, that revealed a narrow, wide screen sitting at the base of the windshield. It shows a clock and a speedometer \u2014 all digital of course \u2014 and an apparent radio readout of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=djV11Xbc914\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">\u201cTake On Me\u201d<\/a> (A-Ha fans, take note). There\u2019s a shadowy glimpse of a fat steering wheel in the foreground. There\u2019s a head-up display in there as well, flashed onto the windshield glass.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press release issued for CES, the information displayed on the new screen can be selected in stages by using a &#8220;mixed reality slider&#8221;: driving-related information; contents of the communications system; augmented-reality projection; and &#8220;entry into virtual worlds.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dagobah\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">Dagobah<\/a>, perhaps?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is more than a vision. We bring this innovation into the &#8220;Neue Klasse.&#8221; Neue Klasse is BMW\u2019s name for a new range of vehicles designed to \u00a0&#8220;bring humans and machines closer together.&#8221; Anyway, Zipse continued, referring to the display, &#8220;As early as 2025 \u2013 the year after next \u2013 our customers will be able to experience this completely new technology in their vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BMW\u2019s boss said he was \u201cabsolutely convinced\u201d that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/629778\/big-infotainment-screens-vanish-bmw\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22629778%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22big-infotainment-screens-vanish-bmw%22%7D\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">big center-console-based screens will disappear from cars<\/a>. He believes that they are a distraction and that government regulations will eventually dictate changes in those technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Production of the all-electric models will begin in Hungary and then Germany. BMW\u2019s South Carolina factory will also make them by the end of the decade, the company has said.
