{"id":39886,"date":"2023-01-09T06:04:36","date_gmt":"2023-01-09T11:04:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=39886"},"modified":"2023-01-09T06:04:36","modified_gmt":"2023-01-09T11:04:36","slug":"mercedes-first-to-offer-level-3-self-driving-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=39886","title":{"rendered":"Mercedes Is The First Automaker To Offer Level 3 Self-Driving In The US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mercedes-Benz booth at this year\u2019s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) showcased a bunch of new technology that the German brand is preparing for the following months.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest piece of news was the company\u2019s plan to build <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/629594\/mercedes-ev-charging-network\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22629594%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22mercedes-ev-charging-network%22%7D\">its own, $1-billion global network of fast chargers<\/a>, but another interesting story sort of went under the radar, and it\u2019s about Mercedes-Benz becoming the first automaker to offer certified Level 3 self-driving technology in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2022, the German marque began selling its top-tier autonomous driving system dubbed <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/584686\/mercedes-level-3-autonomous-tech-launch-germany\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22584686%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22mercedes-level-3-autonomous-tech-launch-germany%22%7D\">Drive Pilot in Germany<\/a>, after receiving the first-ever certificate of compliance for an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).<\/p>\n<p>Now, during CES 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/mercedes-benz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Mercedes<\/a> announced that its <em>Drive Pilot<\/em> system has been approved by the state of Nevada and it\u2019s waiting for the American state to issue the official certificate of compliance, which should happen \u201cwithin the two weeks,\u201d according to the company\u2019s press release.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s not all. It can also make automatic lane changes to help follow route guidance when approaching exit ramps or freeway junctions.<\/p>\n<p>ALC will be part of Mercedes\u2019 current Level 2 partially automated driving suite that\u2019s available in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sae.org\/blog\/sae-j3016-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SAE levels of driving automation<\/a>, a Level 3-capable vehicle can take over certain driving tasks, but a driver is still required to be present and ready to take control of the car at all times when prompted to intervene.
