The prize was voted by a panel of motoring journalists from about two dozen countries, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/electric\/jeep-avenger-has-won-european-car-year-2023-title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">Top Gear<\/a> magazine.<\/p>\n<p>One was Paul Horrell of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/electric\/jeep-avenger-has-won-european-car-year-2023-title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Top Gear<\/a>, who commented: &#8220;This car caught me out. I expected to dislike it but experience proved the opposite. It&#8217;s very usefully small, but drives like a refined bigger car.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It notched up 328 points and was ranked first by 21 jurors, eclipsing <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/volkswagen\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Volkswagen&#8217;s<\/a> electric revival of the Kombi called the ID. Buzz, and the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/nissan\/ariya\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Nissan Ariya<\/a>, an electric family <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/crossover\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">crossover<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/cars\/hybrid-electric-cars\/jeep-avenger-ev-wins-2023-car-year-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">The Telegraph reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Avenger has an &#8220;attractive exterior design reminiscent of the boxy American Seventies Jeeps along with the signature seven-slot grille first seen on the original World War Two-era Willys Jeep,&#8221; according to the newspaper. &#8220;It feels comfortable and a bit special in this class of practically identical jacked-up superminis.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure>\n <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/insider_articles_922\/c9c54233f4ea01e0efbce43ec54ffb5a\" alt=\"Jeep Avenger\" data-uuid=\"7f97ca7e-1222-3bd6-be61-b10e2c33d176\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><figcaption>\n   The Jeep Avenger was named European Car of the Year at the Brussels auto show on Friday.<br \/>\n  <span class=\"copyright\">Sjoerd van der Wal\/Getty Images)<\/span><br \/>\n <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Avenger is part of Jeep&#8217;s drive to become a leader in electric SUVs. The manufacturer wants EVs to account for all sales in Europe by 2030, and at least half in North America as well, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/09\/08\/jeep-to-begin-launching-evs-in-2023\/?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAABe1MtH8Dy1O9MMWHd8lOMPRzgbU6AC96rCSjhGptrM_JZUJk5NHZBadSgfMX8NaI3RD7xBnIfQXoVjfZoa2HYYlpIdffzExUzbtzijuXQTfRyuBi_Am0MliWSWG41Xwe0YYIhGv_nnJD8SwEtptjf24wqZ4O6B2D_TcnVscUEzS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Tech Crunch<\/a> reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the Avenger will only be available in Europe and some countries in North Africa, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoexpress.co.uk\/jeep\/avenger\/108646\/new-2023-jeep-avenger-come-254-mile-range\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">Auto Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s &#8220;no real market potential in North America&#8221; for SUVs as small as the Avenger, Jeep CEO Christian Meunier told <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/09\/08\/jeep-to-begin-launching-evs-in-2023\/?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAABe1MtH8Dy1O9MMWHd8lOMPRzgbU6AC96rCSjhGptrM_JZUJk5NHZBadSgfMX8NaI3RD7xBnIfQXoVjfZoa2HYYlpIdffzExUzbtzijuXQTfRyuBi_Am0MliWSWG41Xwe0YYIhGv_nnJD8SwEtptjf24wqZ4O6B2D_TcnVscUEzS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">Tech Crunch<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n<p>The Avenger, which was unveiled in October at the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/paris-motor-show\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">Paris Auto Show<\/a>, is just 13.4 ft long. Designers sought to embody &#8220;brand DNA&#8221; within &#8220;compact dimensions,&#8221; according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.media.stellantis.com\/uk-en\/jeep\/press\/all-new-jeep-avenger-unveiled-in-paris-the-first-ever-fully-electric-jeep-brand-suv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">press release from Stellantis<\/a>, which owns Jeep.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jeep.co.uk\/jeep-avenger\/electric?gclid=CjwKCAiAwomeBhBWEiwAM43YII-2S9tfktMvGnBMVrySS81Z7XJHSqRiOQ_dkGbx0oqOfBSe4so6ZhoCei4QAvD_BwE&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">Jeep says<\/a> the Avenger offers &#8220;uncompromised&#8221; off-road capability despite its size, as well as a range of almost 250 miles.<\/p>\n<p>The Jeep Recon and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/jeep\/wagoneer\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">Wagoneer<\/a> S will be the first fully-electric Jeep SUVs available to American buyers, but they&#8217;re not scheduled to go into production until 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many European countries offer government subsidies to help drivers buy EVs, which Jeep hopes will boost sales.
