Tesla\u2019s Chief Vehicle Designer, Franz von Holzhausen, recently said in a podcast that the much-anticipated Cybertruck is basically ready for production, but in typical Tesla fashion, stopped short of offering concrete facts.<\/p>\n

As a guest on Ryan McCaffrey\u2019s podcast Ride the Lightning<\/em>, the man famous for breaking the unbreakable armor glass<\/em><\/a> was asked if the company\u2019s electric pickup was ready \u201cfrom a design perspective\u201d, to which von Holzhausen answered, \u201cYeah. Basically, yes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement comes three years after Tesla<\/a> CEO Elon Musk<\/a> unveiled the angular-shaped EV and after several delays in production due to supply chain issues caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As noted by Teslarati<\/em>, the podcast\u2019s host mentioned the rumors surrounding the start of production, trying to get a confirmation for the mid-2023 estimation that\u2019s floating around on the internet. Tesla\u2019s Chief Designer didn\u2019t deny or confirm the information, saying that the company doesn\u2019t have a \u201cpencils down\u201d mentality with vehicle design, meaning that Tesla could make changes to the design of a car whenever it feels there\u2019s a need for it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe work consistently through the entire process, and we\u2019re constantly working on every detail, and the refinement of that,\u201d von Holzhausen said on the podcast. \u201cAnd we learn things through the engineering phases and the manufacturing development phases that we can improve on, and so we do,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Tesla\u2019s lead designer<\/a> also half-heartedly confirmed that the upcoming Cybertruck<\/a> might come with the controversial yoke steering wheel as standard, saying that it \u201cmakes sense,\u201d but the company hasn\u2019t confirmed this and it\u2019s unclear if it will ever offer any information on this matter before the truck gets to reservation holders.<\/p>\n

Tesla previously offered the yoke steering wheel as standard on the Model S<\/a> Plaid and Model X<\/a> Plaid, but it recently introduced a conventional round steering wheel<\/a> as a no-cost option for new cars ordered on its website. So while the yoke looks cool, it seems the American EV maker listened to those who said that it\u2019s impractical, especially when you need to do a lot of maneuvers in tight spaces.<\/p>\n

Hints of Tesla\u2019s intentions of starting production on the Cybertruck were spotted several times, with photos and delivery notes of the 9,000-ton Giga Press from IDRA<\/a> making its way to the car company\u2019s Texas factory earlier this year.<\/p>\n
