Tesla is working every day on improving the Model S, constantly thinking of ways to make life easier for the owners of the decade-old vehicle. It\u2019s something that long-time Tesla fans have known for a while, but now it\u2019s been confirmed by none other than the company\u2019s chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen.<\/p>\n

The man who managed to break the Cybertruck<\/a>\u2019s armor glass<\/em> during its reveal<\/a> said in a recent interview with Ryan McCaffrey, who hosts the Ride The Lightning<\/em> podcast, that he worked on the Model S<\/a> just a day earlier.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though we\u2019ve just done a refresh, and it\u2019s a big improvement on the car, we\u2019re still looking at how do we continue to make it better,\u201d he said, referring to the recent refresh of the all-electric liftback. The 2021 facelift brought new headlights and tail lights, and a heavily refreshed interior with a new center screen and a rear screen, among other things.<\/p>\n

Talking about these improvements, von Holzhausen said it was something he and the team knew they wanted to do and took the opportunity to improve manufacturability, according to Teslarati<\/em><\/a>. He added that it took \u201ca fair amount of time\u201d to do the whole refresh, later saying that the team probably worked on it for around a year.<\/p>\n

At one point, the podcast\u2019s host asks Tesla<\/a>‘s chief designer how many times the Model S has been \u201ccompletely redesigned under the skin\u201d from its debut in 2012, to which von Holzhausen replied with \u201cit\u2019s kind of a blur, it\u2019s constant improvements through the years, like we\u2019ve improved seats over time. Yeah, I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s probably more than that,\u201d referring to the host\u2019s assertion that the car had two or three big redesigns over time.<\/p>\n

In the same interview, Tesla\u2019s lead designer talks about how \u201cit makes sense\u201d for the Cybertruck to get the controversial yoke steering wheel, but also about how the Tesla Roadster<\/a> will be better in every metric than the prototype unveiled more than five years ago.<\/p>\n
