In fact, Citroen CEO Vincent Cob\u00e9e belives the SUV\u2019s demise has already begun, even though this is contradicted by cold, hard sales numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Cob\u00e9e spoke to AutoExpress and said that even though crossovers and SUVs have accounted for almost 50 percent of all new car sales in Europe in recent years, he still believes this isn\u2019t sustainable and won\u2019t last. He says SUVs biggest Achilles\u2019 heel is their aerodynamics, which means they require more energy than a sedan.<\/p>\n<p>This, of course, has a negative impact on range numbers, which are hugely important in electric car buyers\u2019 eyes. He points to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/431575\/citroen-e-c4-offers-350-km-range\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22431575%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22citroen-e-c4-offers-350-km-range%22%7D\">the new e-C4<\/a>, which replaces a traditional hatchback yet is a slightly tall coupe-like fastback model &#8211; it rides taller than a traditional car, but nowhere near as tall as some crossovers and SUVs, and he says it\u2019s all the better for it.<\/p>\n<p>And there are more cars that aren\u2019t quite crossovers (especially among EVs), like the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/hyundai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Hyundai<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/hyundai\/ioniq-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Ioniq 5<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/kia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Kia<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/kia\/ev6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">EV6<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/jaguar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Jaguar<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/jaguar\/i-pace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">I-Pace<\/a>, yet are called crossovers in order to make them appealing to those looking for that specific type of vehicle. This approach has the benefit of also attracting buyers who are trying to avoid buying a taller vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Cob\u00e9e said that \u201cthe world of SUVs is done\u201d even though \u201cnumbers are not telling me I\u2019m right.\u201d He goes on to explain that in the not too distant future it will come down to battery capacity &#8211; all Citroen-badged EVs today draw from a 50 kWh battery pack and we know of no plans for anything that would need a larger battery than that.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Citroen\u2019s latest concept gives a glimpse at the manufacturer\u2019s near-future philosophy for developing its EVs. <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/613348\/citroen-oli-electric-concept-urban-pickup\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22613348%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22citroen-oli-electric-concept-urban-pickup%22%7D\">The Oli study<\/a> (pictured above) has lots of off-roader design cues, but it\u2019s actually envisioned as a small city runabout with a focus on keeping its weight down &#8211;
