But that adds weight and cost, and so won&#8217;t be a viable solution in the long term, Cob\u00e9e noted, adding that the public perception of SUVs as wasteful could eventually curtail their appeal.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Jeep, a cousin of Citro\u00ebn under the Stellantis family tree, doesn&#8217;t seem to think that to be the case, as it&#8217;s releasing its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137513_jeep-avenger-ev-suv-europe-4x4-concept\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Avenger for Europe<\/a>, while a\u00a0rugged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137085_jeep-recon-ev-electric-wrangler-4xe-production-evs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recon EV<\/a> is on the way for the U.S., among others. In fact the entire Jeep brand\u2014one of Stellantis&#8217; most profitable\u2014depends on them.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100859699_m\" title=\"Jeep Avenger\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Jeep Avenger\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"682\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/jeep-avenger_100859699_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/jeep-avenger_100859699_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/jeep-avenger_100859699_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/jeep-avenger_100859699_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/jeep-avenger_100859699_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/jeep-avenger_100859699_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Jeep Avenger<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">And in some markets, like the U.S., building a lot of light trucks may be part of a strategy to help &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1138395_ceo-ram-range-extended-electric-pickup-to-outrun-regulations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">run faster than regulations<\/a>,&#8221; as Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares recently put it to Green Car Reports.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">That begs the question of what a continued predominance of SUVs in an EV era would mean for overall emissions reductions.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">A 2021 report showed that the emissions benefits of any shift toward EVs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1130993_report-emissions-gains-from-evs-in-2020-were-canceled-out-by-added-emissions-from-suvs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was canceled out<\/a> by the market&#8217;s persistent shift to SUVs.
