However, the year 2022 ended with a 7 percent decrease compared to 2021, at 8,262,800 units.<\/p>\n<p>On the battery electric vehicle (BEV) front, the company managed to improve results, despite supply constraints and temporary production stops.<\/p>\n<p>In Q4, Volkswagen Group all-electric vehicle sales reached a new record of 205,800 units (up 29 percent year-over-year), which is also 9.3 percent of the total volume.<\/p>\n<section class=\"trinity-skip-it\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-q4-2022.png\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-q4-2022.png\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"916\" height=\"439\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>BEV sales increase quite consistently and in 2023 are expected to further accelerate.<\/p>\n<section class=\"trinity-skip-it\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-q4-2022-b.png\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-q4-2022-b.png\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"925\" height=\"444\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>In 2022, Volkswagen Group sold a record number of around 572,100 all-electric vehicles around the world (26 percent more than <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/560278\/volkswagen-group-sales-2021\/\">in 2021 &#8211; 452,839<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s about 6.9 percent of all vehicles sold during the period (compared to 5.1 percent in 2021, and 2.5 percent in 2020).<\/p>\n<section class=\"trinity-skip-it\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-q4-2022-c.png\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/volkswagen-group-bev-sales-q4-2022-c.png\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"932\" height=\"433\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>In 2023, the group would like to increase the BEV share to around 11 percent, which probably means 0.9-1 million units.<\/p>\n<p>The medium term goal is around 20 percent share by 2025, and roughly half of the total volume by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Europe remains the largest EV market for the Volkswagen Group, which is also the largest player in the European BEV segment.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company, Volkswagen Group improved its position in the United States to 4th. We don&#8217;t know the position in China, but it&#8217;s the group&#8217;s fastest growing market &#8211; at least for BEVs.<\/p>\n<p>Sales in Q1-Q4 2022:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Europe: 352,000 (up 13.4%)<\/li>\n<li>US: 44,200 (up 18.8%)<\/li>\n<li>China: 155,700 (up 68.2%)<\/li>\n<li>Rest of the world: 20,200 (up 59.2%)<\/li>\n<li>Total: 572,100 (up 26.3% year-over-year)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/volkswagen\/\">Volkswagen<\/a> brand was responsible for the majority of the all-electric sales (57 percent), with a substantial contribution from <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/audi\/\">Audi<\/a> (21%) and <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/skoda\/\">Skoda<\/a> (9%):<\/p>\n<p>The only brand within the group that failed to increase BEV sales in 2022 was <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/porsche\/\">Porsche<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sales in Q1-Q4 2022:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/631159\/volkswagen-electric-car-sales-2022q4\/\">Volkswagen (cars): 325,100 (up 23.6%)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/631166\/audi-electric-car-sales-2022q4\/\">Audi: 118,200 (up 44.3%)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/631170\/skoda-electric-car-sales-2022q4\/\">Skoda: 53,700 (up 9.3%)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/631126\/porsche-taycan-global-sales-2022q4\/\">Porsche: 34,800 (down 15.7%)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/631177\/seat-cupra-born-sales-2022\/\">Seat\/Cupra: 31,400 (up 140.8%)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/631210\/volkswagen-commercial-vehicles-sales-2022-buzz\/\">Volkswagen (commercial vehicles): 7,500 (up 109%)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>other (MAN, Scania, Navistar): 1,420 (up 75%)<\/li>\n<li>Total: 572,100 (up 26.3% year-over-year)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The group&#8217;s best selling electric car in 2022 was <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/volkswagen\/id-4\/\">Volkswagen ID.4<\/a> (counted by the manufacturer together with the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/volkswagen\/id5\/\">ID.5<\/a> coupe version) at 193,200 units.<\/p>\n<p>If we include also 53,700 Skoda Enyaq iV (incl. Coup\u00e9) and 52,800 Audi Q4 e-tron (incl. Sportback) it turns out that the MEB-based crossover\/SUV was responsible for the majority of BEV sales (almost 300,000 units).<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/volkswagen\/id-3\/\">Volkswagen ID.3<\/a> was the second most popular model (76,600). With additional 31,400 Cupra Born, the combined sales of compact hatchbacks were at 108,000.<\/p>\n<p>The top selling BEV models in Q4 2022 (estimated from YTD numbers):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Volkswagen ID.4\/ID.5 &#8211; 70,600<\/li>\n<li>Volkswagen ID.3 &#8211; 31,100<\/li>\n<li>Audi Q4 e-tron (incl.
