The solar roof installations will directly power the company\u2019s store locations within the portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>Construction will begin in early 2023, and once the solar rooftop installations are fully online, they\u2019re expected to generate more than 17 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually. That\u2019s the equivalent of removing 2,648 gas cars from the road annually. <\/p>\n<p>The Home Depot\u2019s goal is to produce or procure\u00a0100% renewable energy by 2030,\u00a0equivalent to the electricity needs for all its facilities. There are nearly 2,300 Home Depot stores across North America, and the average Home Depot is around 104,000 square feet in size, so that\u2019s a lot of empty rooftop space just waiting to be covered in solar panels.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg?quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-277905\" srcset=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg?resize=150,75 150w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg?resize=300,150 300w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg?resize=768,384 768w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg?resize=1024,512 1024w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg?resize=1536,768 1536w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg?resize=350,175 350w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg?resize=140,70 140w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/DSD_THD3.jpg?resize=290,145 290w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>But these aren\u2019t the first rooftop solar installations for Home Depot; they\u2019ve been at it since <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.homedepot.com\/news\/sustainability\/rooftop-solar-farms-home-depot-finds-new-use-store-roofs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">at least 2017<\/a>, when it worked with Current, a subsidiary of GE, and Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>DSD and The Home Depot are working together on further solar projects in New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, and Massachusetts, with additional projects planned in Arizona, California, Illinois, and New York.<\/p>\n<p>Dan O\u2019Brien, vice president of direct origination at DSD, said: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"8\">\n<p>This project marks 98 [Home Depot] stores that will have deployed solar rooftops with DSD.<\/p>\n<p>The Home Depot shares our commitment to reduce its carbon footprint and we applaud the expansion of its renewable energy program.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In January 2022, <em>Electrek<\/em> reported that Home Depot\u2019s annual rooftop solar potential was 2,732.8\u00a0GWh.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>Putting rooftop solar on big-box retail roofs is a complete no-brainer.
