{"id":41072,"date":"2023-01-24T06:03:45","date_gmt":"2023-01-24T11:03:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=41072"},"modified":"2023-01-24T06:03:45","modified_gmt":"2023-01-24T11:03:45","slug":"uber-to-make-its-own-evs-with-car-makers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=41072","title":{"rendered":"Uber Working With Car Makers To Build Dedicated EVs For Ridesharing And Deliveries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Uber is reportedly working with a number of automotive companies to design and build dedicated electric vehicles for its ride-hailing and delivery services, as revealed by <em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, said during an event held in Davos, Switzerland, that Uber wants to make vehicles optimized for city use, ferrying passengers and deliveries, with the ultimate goal of reducing costs.<\/p>\n<p>Khosrowshahi went on to say that for Uber\u2019s needs, an EV doesn\u2019t have to have a high top speed or impressive acceleration times and that a ride-hailing vehicle could have an interior where passengers can face each other.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p>\u201cI do think that top speeds, for example, that many cars have are not necessary for city driving that\u2019s associated with ride-share,\u201d Mr. Khosrowshahi said. \u201cThat can reduce the specs and if you reduce the specs you can reduce the ultimate cost.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When it comes to delivery EVs, Uber\u2019s CEO said that the company is considering smaller, two or three-wheeled vehicles that would have a smaller footprint but a big cargo area.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p>\u201c[They] can get through traffic easier and have a much smaller footprint, both in terms of environmental but also traffic footprint than, let\u2019s say, a car to go deliver groceries,\u201d he said for The Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The executive stopped short of saying what car makers are involved in the company\u2019s plan to make its own vehicles. Uber has <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/555325\/arrival-car-uber-ride-hailing\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22555325%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22arrival-car-uber-ride-hailing%22%7D\">previously worked with UK-based startup Arrival<\/a> to build a vehicle aimed at ride-hailing drivers, but the EV maker seems to have since <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/495427\/arrival-second-microfactory-charlotte-us\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22495427%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22arrival-second-microfactory-charlotte-us%22%7D\">moved on to building commercial vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Uber wants to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/612327\/uber-ev-only-fleet\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22612327%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22uber-ev-only-fleet%22%7D\">convert its fleet of vehicles to all-electric by 2030<\/a> in many countries around the world, and by 2025 in very congested cities like London.
