{"id":41098,"date":"2023-01-24T09:04:01","date_gmt":"2023-01-24T14:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=41098"},"modified":"2023-01-24T09:04:01","modified_gmt":"2023-01-24T14:04:01","slug":"1138530_lightyear-buzz-no-more-0-straight-to-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=41098","title":{"rendered":"Lightyear buzz: No more 0, straight to 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lightyear has canned its debut model, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1136138_lightyear-one-solar-car-price\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the 0<\/a>, less than two months after the sleek fastback hatch with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1137183_lightyear-0-achieves-record-low-drag-coefficient\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">world-beating drag coefficient<\/a> entered production.<\/p>\n<p>In an update released on Monday, the Dutch EV startup said it made the decision in order to redirect its focus and resources to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1138376_lightyear-2-ev-teased-with-starting-price-in-40-000-bracket\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more affordable, higher volume 2 hatchback<\/a> shown earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The company also mentioned the need for a court to start \u201csuspension of payment proceedings\u201d in relation to Atlas Technologies, a subsidiary company responsible for production of the 0. The company has also confirmed a starting price of less than 40,000 euros (approximately $43,450). The 0 was priced from 250,000 euros ($271,575). It isn&#8217;t clear if any cars were actually delivered.<\/p>\n<p>In its latest update, Lightyear said the 2 was developed alongside the 0, which points to the car already being at a late stage of development. Like the 0, the 2 will feature solar panels and in-wheel hub motors.<\/p>\n<p>Lightyear also said 40,000 individuals have joined a waitlist for more information on the 2, and 20,000 pre-orders have already been made by fleet customers.<\/p>\n<p>Production of the 0 was handled by Finland&#8217;s Valmet, the contract manufacturer that at one time built the Fisker Karma extended-range EV.
