{"id":41180,"date":"2023-01-25T09:03:40","date_gmt":"2023-01-25T14:03:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=41180"},"modified":"2023-01-25T09:03:40","modified_gmt":"2023-01-25T14:03:40","slug":"tesla-autopilot-consumer-reports-rating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=41180","title":{"rendered":"Tesla Autopilot slips in Consumer Reports driver assistance ratings &#8211; Autoblog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tesla\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\">Tesla&#8217;s<\/a> advanced driver assistance system Autopilot fell in a ranking of 12 major systems, <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/cars\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\" rel=\"noopener\">Consumer Reports<\/a> said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Of 12 systems tested by Consumer Reports, a nonprofit organization that evaluates products and services, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/05\/15\/2022-ford-f150-lightning-bluecruise-review\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">Ford Motor&#8217;s BlueCruise<\/a> was first, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/07\/06\/2021-cadillac-escalade-super-cruise-review\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">General Motors&#8217; Cadillac Super Cruise<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mercedes_benz\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">Mercedes-Benz<\/a> Driver Assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla, which was second in Consumer Reports ratings in 2020 behind Super Cruise, fell to seventh, the group said. The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/electric\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">electric vehicle<\/a> maker did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla hasn\u2019t changed Autopilot\u2019s basic functionality, instead adding more features to it, the group said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After all this time, Autopilot still doesn\u2019t allow collaborative steering and doesn\u2019t have an effective driver monitoring system,&#8221; said Consumer Reports Auto Testing director Jake Fisher in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/nhtsa\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration<\/a> (<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/nhtsa\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">NHTSA<\/a>) is investigating 830,000 Tesla vehicles with Autopilot after a series of crashes with parked emergency vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>NHTSA is reviewing whether Tesla vehicles adequately ensure drivers are paying attention. In June, the agency said evidence suggested drivers in most crashes with emergency vehicles under review had complied with Tesla&#8217;s alert strategy that seeks to compel driver attention, raising questions about its effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>NHTSA Acting Administrator Ann Carlson said earlier this month the agency was &#8220;working really fast&#8221; on its Autopilot probe. &#8220;We&#8217;re moving as quickly as we can, but we also want to be careful and make sure we have all the information we need,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ntsb.gov\/Pages\/home.aspx\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\" rel=\"noopener\">National Transportation Safety Board<\/a> criticized Tesla&#8217;s &#8220;ineffective monitoring of driver engagement&#8221; after a 2018 fatal Autopilot crash.<\/p>\n<p>Autopilot enables cars to steer, accelerate and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/brakes\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">brake<\/a> within their lanes without driver intervention but Tesla says the feature requires &#8220;active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NHTSA has separately opened more than three dozen Tesla special crash investigations where advanced systems including Autopilot were suspected of being used with 19 crash deaths reported.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Reporting by David Shepardson; Editing by Shri Navaratnam)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Related video:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><style><![CDATA[.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }]]><\/style>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-container\">\n <lite-youtube videoid=\"Vr05MO9Ey2E\" data-thumbnail=\"\"\/>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 Tesla&#8217;s advanced driver assistance system Autopilot fell in a ranking of 12 major systems, Consumer Reports said Wednesday.
