{"id":41199,"date":"2023-01-25T09:03:58","date_gmt":"2023-01-25T14:03:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=41199"},"modified":"2023-01-25T09:03:58","modified_gmt":"2023-01-25T14:03:58","slug":"1138548_lucid-reveals-its-electric-motor-that-powers-formula-e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=41199","title":{"rendered":"Lucid reveals its electric motor that powers Formula E"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lucid may be best known for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1138248_lucid-air-grand-touring-s-price-lowered-with-less-standard-features\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Air luxury electric sedan<\/a>, but the California company started life as far back as 2007 as a supplier of EV technology to major OEMs, under the name Atieva.<\/p>\n<p>Despite moving into car production, Lucid hasn&#8217;t abandoned its supply business and on Wednesday announced one of its latest deals: the supply of front motor-generators for the Formula E World Championship.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Lucid has also previously supplied battery packs to Formula E.<\/p>\n<p>The motor-generator, which Lucid refers to as an electric drive unit, since the fully contained unit also comprises an inverter, differential, and transmission, features in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1126470_lighter-faster-gen3-formula-e-race-car-revealed-ahead-of-season-9-debut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Formula E&#8217;s Gen3 race car<\/a> which started racing this year. Compare that with a production internal-combustion engine which at most uses about 40% of the stored energy in fuel for motion.<\/p>\n<p>The electric drive unit weighs just 70.5 pounds but generates a maximum 469 hp, or about 6.6 hp for every pound of weight.
