As previously reported, the X1 will be the first to get the OS9, but we\u2019re now learning that it\u2019ll be available only for certain versions. In addition, the company is rolling out the hardware in the United Kingdom at first as part of a pilot phase.<\/p>\n<p>Additional compact cars will receive the next-gen iDrive later this year when BMW intends to introduce the Android Automotive-based infotainment to other countries. As a refresher, people who have already bought a new X1 sadly won\u2019t be able to transition to the OS9 since it\u2019s not going to be offered as an over-the-air update. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwblog.com\/2022\/12\/09\/2023-bmw-m135i-spied-with-two-tone-wheels-and-quad-exhaust\/\">1 Series is preparing for a Life Cycle Impulse<\/a> and could therefore make the switch.<\/p>\n<p>Near the end of the year, we should also see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwblog.com\/2022\/11\/05\/2024-bmw-x2-m35i-spy-shots\/\">second-generation X2 (U10)<\/a> with iDrive 9. It\u2019s too soon to say whether the 2 Series Active Tourer and\/or the 2 Series Gran Coupe will also receive the infotainment before the end of the year. If not, 2024 seems like a safe bet to make.<\/p>\n<p>Larger BMWs will not get iDrive 9 as these models are programmed to receive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwblog.com\/2023\/01\/04\/2024-bmw-5-series-idrive-8-5\/\">iDrive 8.5<\/a> instead, and this one too will necessitate a different head unit.
