{"id":42015,"date":"2023-02-04T00:04:21","date_gmt":"2023-02-04T05:04:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=42015"},"modified":"2023-02-04T00:04:21","modified_gmt":"2023-02-04T05:04:21","slug":"future-ford-evs-deep-into-development-will-use-smaller-batteries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=42015","title":{"rendered":"Future Ford EVs &#8220;Deep Into Development,&#8221; Will Use Smaller Batteries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ford Motor Company has made big advances on the EV front in recent years, bringing three popular products to market in the guise of the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and E-Transit.<\/p>\n<p>The F-150 Lightning is arguably the more important product of the three, and <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/554741\/ford-f150lightning-doubled-production-target\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22554741%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ford-f150lightning-doubled-production-target%22%7D\">Ford has already increased production to 150,000 units a year<\/a> under CEO Jim Farley&#8217;s watch. The chief executive is also <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/569649\/ford-scale-bev-capacity-600000year\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22569649%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ford-scale-bev-capacity-600000year%22%7D\">pushing for Mustang Mach-E annual production of 200,000 units<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, this production ramp is costly for the company, and Ford executives noted in an earnings call with analysts on February 2 that it is underperforming in a key metric: the cost of goods sold as a percentage of revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Ford CEO Jim Farley said the automaker will simplify its EVs and make them easier to scale up in the future, which will allow it to compete in a potential price war. He also made comments about the next-gen EVs, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/ford\/f-150-ev\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22ford%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22f-150-ev%22%7D\">F-150 Lightning<\/a>&#8216;s successor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now we are deep into development of our second-generation EVs, including our next-generation electric full-size pickup\u2014which, by the way, is awesome,&#8221; Farley said according to <em>Green Car Reports<\/em>. We want to have minimum choice for customers,&#8221; he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Ford&#8217;s CEO also mentioned the company&#8217;s no-haggle Model e program that starts in January 2024. Already <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/610114\/ford-modele-dealership-rules\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22610114%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ford-modele-dealership-rules%22%7D\">adopted by nearly two-thirds of dealers<\/a>, the program will allow Ford to sell EVs &#8220;in high volume with virtually no inventory&#8221; at non-negotiated prices set by the local dealer.
