Once <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/12\/15\/junkyard-gem-1990-jeep-cherokee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">the Jeep XJ Cherokee<\/a> led the way starting in 1984 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/12\/26\/junkyard-gem-1991-mazda-navajo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">the 1991 Ford Explorer<\/a> set off a mass exodus from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/car-life\/classic-cars\/a39372850\/what-year-was-peak-wagon-in-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">once-beloved Detroit station wagons<\/a>, the rule here became <em>sell <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/truck\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">trucks<\/a> or die<\/em>. The General was already selling plenty of trucks with <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Chevrolet<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/gmc\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">GMC<\/a> badges as the 1980s drew to a close, so an additional division was selected to get <a href=\"http:\/\/oldcarbrochures.org\/United%20States\/Oldsmobile\/1991-Oldsmobile\/1991-Oldsmobile-Full-Line-Prestige-Brochure\/slides\/1991_Oldsmobile_Full_Line_Prestige-80-81.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">a rebadged Blazer\/Jimmy, starting in 1991<\/a>: <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/oldsmobile\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Oldsmobile<\/a>. Here&#8217;s an example of the second generation of the Olds <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/oldsmobile\/bravada\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">Bravada<\/a>, found in a Nevada self-service car graveyard.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/01\/06111518\/18-1997-Oldsmobile-Bravada-in-Nevada-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Oldsmobile <a href=\"https:\/\/macsmotorcitygarage.com\/when-oldsmobile-built-trucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">sold lots of trucks<\/a> through the 1920s, with some Oldsmobile-badged GMCs being shipped off for overseas sales in the late 1930s. <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/pontiac\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">Pontiac<\/a> had a bit more history in the truck department, building <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curbsideclassic.com\/automotive-histories\/automotive-history-the-sedan-delivery\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">sedan deliveries<\/a> well into the 1950s (<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/buick\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">Buick<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/cadillac\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">Cadillac<\/a> made trucks in the early part of the 20th century as well), but it was clear that just about <em>every<\/em> car marque would need at least one truck model soon enough.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/01\/06111516\/14-1997-Oldsmobile-Bravada-in-Nevada-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Three generations of Bravada were built; the first two (1991-1994 and 1996-2001) were based on the Chevrolet S-10\/Blazer platform and the third (2002-2004) was sibling to the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/trailblazer\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">Chevrolet Trailblazer<\/a>. By the end \u2014 and by that, I mean <a href=\"https:\/\/autoweek.com\/article\/junkyard-treasures\/junkyard-treasure-final-500-edition-2004-oldsmobile-alero\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:17;\">the end of Oldsmobile itself <\/a>\u2014 even Buick, <a href=\"http:\/\/autoweek.com\/article\/junkyard-treasures\/junkyard-treasure-2008-saab-9-7x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:18;\">Saab<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/isuzu\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:19;\">Isuzu<\/a> offered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2018\/03\/18\/junkyard-gem-2005-isuzu-ascender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:20;\">Trailblazer twins<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/01\/06111528\/31-1997-Oldsmobile-Bravada-in-Nevada-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This generation of Bravada differed more from its Chevrolet\/GMC siblings than did the 2002-2004 versions, with snazzy Bravada-only bucket seats and a unique center console.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/01\/06111521\/23-1997-Oldsmobile-Bravada-in-Nevada-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The split grille and side cladding also made the Bravada easy to distinguish from a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chevrolet\/blazer\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:21;\">Blazer<\/a> at a glance. This face would change, for the worse, with a mid-cycle refresh that brought Oldsmobile&#8217;s new Aurora-inspired emblem.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/01\/06111531\/34-1997-Oldsmobile-Bravada-in-Nevada-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The cladding on the Bravada was body-colored from the factory, but someone \u2014 possibly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutcars.com\/2015\/09\/junkyard-find-1996-chevrolet-caprice-classic-rabid-49ers-fan-edition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:22;\">a San Francisco 49ers fan <\/a>\u2014 painted the cladding and bumpers gold.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/01\/06111517\/16-1997-Oldsmobile-Bravada-in-Nevada-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>These factory wheels look good, though the gold inset <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/colors\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:23;\">color<\/a> appears to have been added by the same painter who did the cladding.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/800x450\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/01\/06111509\/07-1997-Oldsmobile-Bravada-in-Nevada-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not anywhere near the highest-mile Oldsmobile odometer I&#8217;ve found in the junkyard (that was an &#8216;<a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/toyota\/86\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:24;\">86<\/a> Calais with 363,000 miles), but 235,000 is respectable.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"mFS_4il4zxc\" data-thumbnail=\"\"\/>\n<p>Gotcherself a sports ute, right?
