Both rates increase by $0.05 kwh, but Pass+ members also pay a $4.00 a month fee (which remains unchanged), and they&#8217;ll effectively see a 15% rate increase with the fee factored in.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Price-per-minute rates are also going up. Customers will now be billed at $0.15 per minute for charging at up to 90 kw (a $0.03 increase) and $0.29 per minute up to 350 kw (an additional $0.05 per minute).<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100812254_m\" title=\"Electrify America chargers\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Electrify America chargers\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"768\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/electrify-america-chargers_100812254_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/electrify-america-chargers_100812254_l.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/electrify-america-chargers_100812254_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/electrify-america-chargers_100812254_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/electrify-america-chargers_100812254_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/electrify-america-chargers_100812254_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Electrify America chargers<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">&#8220;Electrify America has been able to maintain consistent and uniform pricing since September 2020; however, rising operational and energy costs have now made adjusting our pricing necessary,&#8221; an Electrify America spokesperson told Green Car Reports. &#8220;Our focus remains on meeting the needs of electric vehicle drivers of today and tomorrow by investing in our network expansion and enhancement to customer experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The national-average price of electricity is just 11.1 cents per kwh, according to the Energy Information Administration, and specific to commercial electricity that a charging station might use, the cost of electricity has risen nearly 11% year over year. So EA&#8217;s price hike may be warranted on a simple cost basis.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Electrify America <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1129626_electrify-america-reboots-pricing-bills-ev-charging-by-the-kwh-where-its-allowed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last rebooted pricing in 2020<\/a>\u2014a controversial change that effectively hiked prices for some models that didn&#8217;t charge at the peak rate for their charge-power tier.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Although a price hike for public EV charging is unlikely to affect driving the way <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1135367_americans-are-driving-a-lot-less-did-we-reach-a-gas-price-tipping-point\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a gas-price hike would<\/a>, it erases some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1135858_analysis-high-gas-prices-ev-operating-cost-advantages-stronger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">operating-cost advantages<\/a> that EVs have.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100757144_m\" title=\"Electrify America charging stations at Love's Travel Stop\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Electrify America charging stations at Love's Travel Stop\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/electrify-america-charging-stations-at-loves-travel-stop_100757144_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/electrify-america-charging-stations-at-loves-travel-stop_100757144_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/electrify-america-charging-stations-at-loves-travel-stop_100757144_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/electrify-america-charging-stations-at-loves-travel-stop_100757144_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/electrify-america-charging-stations-at-loves-travel-stop_100757144_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/electrify-america-charging-stations-at-loves-travel-stop_100757144_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Electrify America charging stations at Love&#8217;s Travel Stop<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Demand charges\u2014typically issued by utilities for sudden spikes in electricity demand from other types of businesses\u2014can significantly hike the cost that charging networks pay per kwh though, and only a few states, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1131187_massachusetts-why-road-trip-ev-fast-charging-costs-so-much\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">such as Massachusetts<\/a>, are tackling why.
