Huge federal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/ev-battery-investments-ballooned-in-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"investments into domestic battery manufacturing (Opens PDF)\">investments into domestic battery manufacturing<\/a>\u00a0are expected to drive production costs down in the coming years, making EVs more affordable and appealing to consumers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-wrapper\">\n<table class=\" trinity-skip-it\" width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0196\/5170\/files\/michael-fousert-XRx5tcRsHEU-unsplash.jpg?v=1675918970\" alt=\"\"\/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n<p><em>Above: An EV charging space (Image:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/s\/photos\/electric%20cars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Michael Fousert (Opens PDF)\">Michael Fousert<\/a>\u00a0\/ Unsplash).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Biden Administration\u2019s EV tax credits are doing better than some analysts expected, as one part of the White House\u2019s larger plan to boost domestic EV manufacturing, according to a recent report from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/02\/01\/electric-car-ev-tax-incentives-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Axios (Opens PDF)\"><em>Axios<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em>\u00a0The report looks at what President Biden and congressional democrats pushed for in the Inflation Reduction Act, which included upgraded incentive guidelines prioritizing U.S. automakers, and several new investment opportunities for EV battery manufacturers in the country.<\/p>\n<p>While the $7,500 federal EV tax credit has given many buyers a chance to purchase U.S. EVs at a bargain, the IRA\u2019s guidelines for domestic battery manufacturing may stand to push the industry forward equally well.<\/p>\n<p>This year alone, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Tesla<\/a> is expecting to earn as much as $1 billion in tax credits for batteries, and CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/category\/elon-musk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Elon Musk<\/a> has previously said these credits could become \u201cvery significant,\u201d and even \u201cgigantic,\u201d in the years to come. One of the top incentives from the IRA includes $35 per kWh for each U.S.-made battery cell \u2014 effectively cutting production costs in half.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, a manufacturer producing 70kWh batteries for one million vehicles would yield $2.45 billion per year from the credit. As another example,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/tesla-s-3-6-billion-expansion-plans-at-giga-nevada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Tesla\u2019s Gigafactory Nevada (Opens PDF)\">Tesla\u2019s Gigafactory Nevada<\/a>\u00a0expects to produce as many as 100 GWh of battery cells per year in the near future, before increasing that to 500 GWh down the road. At the yearly rate of 500 GWh, the new credits would represent roughly $17.5 billion annually.<\/p>\n<p>EV batteries are expected to skyrocket in the U.S. as the country attempts to reduce its supply chain reliance on China.
