{"id":43535,"date":"2023-02-23T12:03:01","date_gmt":"2023-02-23T17:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=43535"},"modified":"2023-02-23T12:03:01","modified_gmt":"2023-02-23T17:03:01","slug":"1138852_lordstown-endurance-electric-truck-production-paused-recall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=43535","title":{"rendered":"Lordstown Endurance electric truck production paused ahead of recall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Ohio\u2019s Lordstown Motors announced that it \u201chas experienced performance and quality issues with certain Endurance components.\u201d That\u2019s led to a temporary stop to both production and customer deliveries, and it will lead to the company\u2019s first recall.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to the company, it\u2019s already filed paperwork with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to voluntarily recall affected trucks due to \u201ca specific electrical connection issue that could lead to a loss of propulsion while driving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">That issue affects 19 vehicles already delivered to customers or in use by the companies. Additional vehicles at the plant will also need the recall remedy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Lordstown appears to explain that it\u2019s not just that particular recall but multiple issues behind the production stop.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100867706_m\" title=\"2023 Lordstown Endurance\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Lordstown Endurance\" width=\"640\" height=\"430\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"688\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/lordstown-endurance_100867706_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/lordstown-endurance_100867706_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/lordstown-endurance_100867706_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/lordstown-endurance_100867706_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/lordstown-endurance_100867706_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/lordstown-endurance_100867706_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Lordstown Endurance<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe team is diligently working with suppliers on the root cause analysis of each issue and potential solutions, which in some cases may include part design modifications, retrofits, and software updates,\u201d said Lordstown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Lordstown didn\u2019t provide any further detail regarding the nature of the issues, and as of publication time the company hasn\u2019t provided any additional insight from the issue to Green Car Reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The company stated that it intends \u201cto provide a more detailed update on the status of these matters on its upcoming earnings call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Endurance is noteworthy from a technology standpoint as it\u2019s the first such electric truck\u2014and the first light truck or passenger vehicle for the U.S. market\u2014to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1128135_lordstown-electric-pickup-will-use-elaphe-in-wheel-motors-made-in-house\">in-wheel hub motors<\/a>. Lordstown obtained the cornerstone, still equipped for vehicle manufacturing, in 2019 for about $20 million. Then it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1135832_with-lordstown-deal-complete-foxconn-pivots-to-making-evs\">sold the plant to Foxconn<\/a> as part of a $230 million deal announced in November 2021 and completed last May.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Foxconn plans to build vehicles based on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1130008_iphone-maker-foxconn-launches-open-platform-for-evs-solid-state-battery-by-2024\">MIH platform for EVs<\/a> at the plant, as well as vehicles that are being conceived together with Lordstown. Products already announced (or likely) for the plant include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1135838_fisker-provides-first-look-at-29-900-urban-ev-confirms-ohio-production\">Fisker Pear<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137414_foxconn-plans-to-build-indi-one-ev-in-ohio-previews-more-foxtron-evs\">Indi One<\/a>, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136831_foxconn-self-driving-electric-tractor-ohio-factory-lordstown-fisker\">self-driving tractor<\/a>\u2014in addition, potentially, to products from the company\u2019s Foxtron EV brand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Lordstown\u2019s founding CEO Steve Burns was pushed out in 2021 after an SEC inquiry found that the company had been inflating order claims.
